A new form of nonvolatile MRAM memory with the promise to eventually replace DRAM is slowly making its way into products, but analysts said it could be a long time before DRAM technology is cast aside.
Everspin on Wednesday said its MRAM (magnetoresistive random access memory) is trickling into products that require reliable, fast non-volatile memory that can preserve data in the event of a power failure.

A new version of the Carberp Trojan attempts to steal money from Facebook users by duping them into divulging an e-cash voucher, researchers say.
"Carberp replaces any Facebook page the user navigates to with a fake page notifying the victim that his/her Facebook account is 'temporarily locked,'" says Trusteer CTO Amit Klein in his blog. "The page asks the user for their first name, last name, email, date of birth, password, and a Ukash 20 euro [approximately $25 U.S.] voucher number to 'confirm verification' of their identity and unlock the account.

Microsoft has been releasing the hardware certification requirements for upcoming operating systems for many years now, and the latest guidelines to be quietly detailed cover tablets running the upcoming operating system, due for launch later this year.
The information was recently spotted by Within Windows, although Microsoft published the documents quietly in December without any further announcement. The information contains Microsoft’s minimum hardware guidelines in order to successfully meet Windows performance, quality and feature criteria to provide an optimum experience using Windows 8.
Some of the requirements make perfect sense, like the NFC “touch mark” concept. In order to successfully pass validation, any tablet with Near Field Communication (NFC) will be required to have either a sticker, or be embossed in some form with the location of the NFC chip to make the experience of pairing it with the NFC readers easier.

Symantec has admitted that its servers were successfully hacked and Norton antivirus and other software source code was stolen.
At the beginning of this month the firm acknowledged that some of its source code was obtained from a third party but said that would not affect Norton antivirus users. However, it now admits that an attack in 2006 obtained source code for other software, which could put its customers at risk.
The investigation was prompted by hackers threatening to release source code this week. However, the threat was not fulfilled yesterday as had been promised earlier by Yama Tough, a hacker associated with Anonymous and The Lords of Dharmaraja.

Overclocking has been an inevitable part of high-performance personal computers for over two decades now. Even though nowadays leading suppliers of x86 microprocessors and graphics cards release special chips and special tools to boost performance of their products by the end users, devices damaged by overclocking up to now have not been covered by warranties. Intel Corp. has decided to change that.
Intel on Wednesday introduced a new pilot plan targeted at the enthusiast community. The new pilot service plan for “K”, “X”, and LGA2011-socketed boxed processors called the performance tuning protection plan (PTPP) provide certain out-of-warranty service offerings in the event of damage caused by overclocking or overvoltaging by the user.
