I came across this last night.





One of the many claims Microsoft makes for Windows Longhorn is that it wil launch applications 15% faster than Windows XP does currently. This is down to improvements in the Prefetch functionality. There's no need to wait until Longhorn arrives; this improvement is already in Windows XP thanks to Service Pack 2. It just needs to be turned on.

To enable super prefetch:

* Use a registry editing tool to navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentCo ntrolSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters
* Insert a value with the following details:

Data Type: DWORD
Value Name: EnableSuperfetch
Value: 1

More than likely an old myth I'm sorry to say.

Superfetch runs as a service within Vista.

Some of the comments at the link below say it does make a difference.

I haven't tried it yet but saw reviews saying that it worked. I was going to try it later. After I figure out how to use Easy BCD. LOL

Yeah it's just a myth.

Don't try it. Some people are saying that it works on Server 2008 though. That's because the service is still there leftover from Vista but won't start because it's unsupported in Server. Makes sense huh? There is Readyboost for XP though but I just installed a readyboost drive on my Vista and it does nothing whatsoever.
