It's no secret Microsoft has already started working on a successor to Windows 7 -- a release often referred to as Windows 8.
There have been some hints of a release in 2012, and all the usual marketing hype has been thrown around in scattered posts by employees, calling it 'revolutionary' and 'completely different' from past versions of the operating system. But for the most part details have been kept under a tightly closed lid.

Facebook's privacy problems have been in the news ... again.
Although complaints may have started deep in the blogosphere, even Time Magazine has made them its cover story.
In response, Facebook announced a new privacy model to address complaints that it's too darn hard to actually navigate privacy settings on Facebook. (Well, duh.)

While the general availability of the beta version of the first service pack for Windows 7 won't roll around until next month, some early adopters are already getting a pre-release.
The release of the first service pack for a new Microsoft operating system is always a telling event. At that point, IT managers have a chance to kick the tires and decide whether the new OS is really worth the investment of upgrading the enterprise.

Intel researchers have published the results of a performance comparison between their latest quad-core Core i7 processor and a two-year-old Nvidia graphics card, and found that the Intel processor can't match the graphics chip's parallel processing performance.
On average, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 280 - released in June 2008 - was 2.5 times faster than the Intel 3.2GHz Core i7 960 processor, and more than 14 times faster under certain circumstances, the Intel researchers reported in the paper, called "Debunking the 100x GPU vs. CPU myth: An evaluation of throughput computing on CPU and GPU."

Microsoft’s week demonstrated its strengths and weaknesses in abundance. While the company touted sales of 150 million copies of Windows 7, its desktop-based flagship, rumors abounded that it was attempting to pay iPhone app developers to port their wares onto the upcoming Windows Phone 7.
