Microsoft fixes long-standing multi-monitor taskbar issue

For years, Windows users have wanted this, and it’s finally happening. With the latest Windows 11 update, Microsoft has added a small but meaningful improvement: you can now open the notification center from any monitor, not just your main one. Until now, people using more than one display had to deal with an odd limitation. If you clicked the system tray clock on a secondary monitor, nothing happened. Notifications only worked properly on your primary screen, which made little sense for anyone juggling multiple displays.

That changes with update KB5065789, which includes this short but important note in its changelog:

“The Notification Center functionality is now available on secondary monitors. To open it, select the date and time in the system tray on the taskbar.”

It’s a simple fix, but a long-awaited one. Power users have been asking for it since Windows 11 first launched, wondering why the taskbar wasn’t consistent across screens. Until now, secondary taskbars acted like stripped-down versions, missing useful features like notification access.

This update finally brings some balance, as you no longer need to move your mouse all the way back to your main display just to check alerts. Of course, the taskbar still isn’t perfect. Many users are still waiting for the return of customization options that existed in Windows 10, like moving the taskbar to the top or sides of the screen. For now, it’s still stuck at the bottom.

But at least this update shows Microsoft is listening, one step at a time.
