Microsoft fixes Windows 11 22H2 gaming performance issues

Like any other major Windows update, the latest 22H2 update for Windows 11 came packed with some bugs and some annoyances for gamers.

With the latest update, gamers had issues that resulted in game performance drops. Part of the issues was quickly resolved with updated Nvidia GPU drivers. However, Microsoft noted that there were also deeper issues with the latest update caused by enabled performance debugging features that were not meant to be used by consumers.

The company hasn’t provided the list of the affected titles, but according to various forum discussions Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, God of War, and Halo Infinite were hit by the performance degradation.

For that reason, Microsoft blocked 22H2 update notifications and automation installations on systems with affected games installed.

Today, gamers can be relieved as the company released a cumulative update (KB5020044) that should bury gaming issues for good. Apart from the GPU debugging issues, this update addresses a fix for File Explorer crashes. It also features OneDrive integration updates and combines Windows Spotlight with Themes on the Personalization page.
