Microsoft Rewards gets a glow up

Microsoft is once again tinkering with its Microsoft Rewards system, and this time, it’s more than just minor tweaks. After a string of quiet adjustments like bumping up Xbox gift card costs and briefly experimenting with daily point changes, the company is now rolling out a broader overhaul that reshapes how users earn and progress.

At the center of it all is a new tiered structure. Instead of a flat experience, users are now sorted into three levels: Member, Silver, and Gold. It’s a familiar gamification strategy, though the decision to skip the classic “Bronze” label feels like an odd branding choice.

The promise? More ways to earn. Monthly bonuses are being introduced, and those who climb to Gold status could see their earnings multiplied significantly, potentially up to seven times, depending on how the system is configured.

On paper, it sounds like a win. In practice, the reaction has been mixed. Some users, particularly those who’ve had early access in regions where the system has quietly existed for a while, aren’t convinced. Feedback circulating on forums like Reddit paints a less optimistic picture, with complaints suggesting the changes don’t necessarily translate into better value.

That skepticism carries weight. This isn’t a brand-new experiment as variations of this system have reportedly been active in places like Mexico for over a year. Now, it’s expanding more visibly across markets including Germany, France, Thailand, and the UK.

So while the redesign might look like progress, it’s not exactly uncharted territory, and early impressions suggest it may not be the upgrade users were hoping for.
