<p>Microsoft has confirmed that the schedule of major annual Windows 11 updates will remain unchanged in 2025. As in previous years, the main release is scheduled to arrive in the second half of the year, and the newest package, Windows 11 version 25H2, is now available for testing in the <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2025/08/29/releasing-windows-11-version-25h2-to-the-release-preview-channel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Release Preview Channel</a>.</p>

<p>For everyday users, this update won’t bring a wave of flashy new features. Microsoft hasn’t highlighted many specifics exclusive to 25H2, instead confirming that it shares the same improvements as the earlier 24H2 release, which gradually unlocked new capabilities throughout the year, including AI enhancements and subtle UI changes.</p>
<p>Still, there are a few notable removals. Legacy components, such as PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation Command-Line (WMIC), are being phased out. On the enterprise side, IT administrators gain new options, such as the ability to remove select pre-installed Microsoft Store apps using Group Policy or MDM CSP on Enterprise and EDU devices.</p>
<p>Another benefit of Microsoft’s shared servicing branch approach is that upgrading from 24H2 to 25H2 requires just a single restart. Most of the new features have already been delivered in earlier cumulative updates, but remain dormant until the enablement package switches them on.</p>
<p>Those eager to try it early can get Windows 11 version 25H2 (Build 26200.5074) today by joining the Release Preview Channel via the Windows Update settings menu and opting in to install it.</p>
