Back in October 2023, Microsoft introduced a new version of its OneDrive cloud storage service exclusively for Microsoft 365 subscribers. Finally, the company has revealed a fresh user interface design for OneDrive, by expanding the update to all personal users. Microsoft explained that the revamped OneDrive design should enhance the speed of locating specific files. The company emphasized that improved visual design minimizes clutter and distractions, enabling users to concentrate on their essential content. The upgraded OneDrive facilitates quicker file retrieval, ensuring a more efficient user experience consistently applied across the entire application.

One of the updates that are worth mentioning to this OneDrive design is the People view that aligns with users’ real-world connections. This feature proves helpful when life gets hectic, making it easier to identify a file based on the sender rather than the file name. The redesigned user interface also includes new filters to quickly locate files based on their format including Word, PDF, Excel, etc.

Additionally, the “add new” button in OneDrive has been transformed. Apart from the file uploads, this button now allows users to create various documents, such as Word files or Excel spreadsheets, without the need to launch external applications. Users can also access a context menu for specific files or folders, revealing commands like Delete, Move To, Download, and more.

Microsoft has initiated the rollout of the enhanced OneDrive experience to users, with the expectation that it should be available to all users by the end of February.
