There is a recent update regarding using Microsoft’s new free Outlook app on Windows 10 and 11. According to various sources, it’s now necessary to have Microsoft’s Edge browser installed and operational to access emails through Outlook. Users on Reddit discovered this requirement and shared images of an error message indicating that the updated Outlook version mandates the presence of the Edge browser.

The main issue is that Outlook now requires Microsoft Edge Webview 2 for specific web functions. While most users already have Edge installed as part of the default Windows setup, those who previously removed Edge may need to reinstall it.

Additionally, Outlook has introduced some new artificial intelligence (AI) features. Soon, users will be able to use the Copilot chatbot to schedule meetings from email threads within Outlook directly. Copilot can generate invitations with a suitable meeting name, an agenda, a summary of the email thread serving as the basis for the meeting, and a list of participants.

The “Schedule with Copilot” feature is planned to launch as part of Microsoft’s Preview program in March, with the official public release scheduled for May. However, it’s important to mention that to access this new AI feature, users must have an active Microsoft 365 subscription.
