Almost 2 years after Samsung released a 15.36TB SSD drive which was back then the highest capacity SSD on the market, Samsung is moving boundaries again with their new 30TB SAS SSD drives.

Inside its 2.5-inch housing, the PM1643 drive has 30.72TB of disk space with a sequential read of 2,100MB/s and write speed of 1,700 MB/s. The PM1643 is powered with 32 sticks of 1TB NAND flash packages which contain 16 layers of  512GB 3D vertical NAND chips. This update resulted in doubled capacity but retained speed of its predecessor. The company claims up to 400,000 IOPS in random read tests and 50,000 IOPS in random write tests.

According to Samsung, the new drive has 4x better performance than a typical SSD SATA drive. Considering that this drive is focused on enterprise usage it offers an MTBF (mean time between failures) of two million hours.

It is still unknown when PM1643 will go on sale, but initial quantities of 30.72TB drives were already set to manufacturing in January 2018. The offer will be expanded in the near future with smaller capacities of 15.36TB, 7.68TB, 3.84TB, 1.92TB, 960GB, and 800GB sizes.
