A recent Windows 11 update is raising red flags after users began reporting serious startup failures shortly after installing it. The issue appears linked to update KB5077181, which was released for both 24H2 and 25H2 versions. For some users, the system enters a continuous restart cycle immediately after installation, making normal login impossible.
One symptom showing up is a SENS (System Event Notification Service) error. This usually points to problems with system communication, often caused by missing configuration data or network-related issues. Other affected users are encountering error codes 0x800f0983 and 0x800f0991 during or after installation.
There are also reports of strange networking behavior. In some cases, machines are showing DHCP errors, suggesting there’s no network connection or that the system has an invalid IP address, even when the device is clearly online. At this stage, there isn’t a single confirmed root cause, which makes troubleshooting harder.
So far, there’s no official fix available. The issue also hasn’t yet appeared in the known issues list for the update, which adds to the uncertainty. Some users have managed to recover by using recovery mode to reset or roll back changes, but results vary.
If your system is still accessible, the safest option is to uninstall the update manually through Installed Updates in Control Panel. After removing it, it’s important to pause automatic Windows updates. Otherwise, the same update could reinstall automatically and bring the problem back.
