Microsoft may be giving one of the smallest parts of Windows 11 a surprisingly noticeable makeover.

Rumors of a redesigned mouse cursor first appeared in June, when Windows Central reported that Microsoft was considering a new look. At the time, there was little more than internal chatter to go on. Now, however, the redesigned cursor has seemingly appeared in an actual Windows 11 preview build.
A screenshot buried in the notes for Insider Experimental Build 26340.9354 accidentally shows the new cursor while demonstrating an unrelated feature. And it looks quite different from the familiar Windows pointer.
The new design is wider, more symmetrical, and noticeably softer, with rounded corners and, most importantly, no traditional pointed tail. Microsoft appears to be moving toward a simpler, more modern shape that fits better with the rest of the Windows 11 interface.
Interestingly, a similar cursor has already appeared in some Microsoft promotional material, including screenshots on the Word product page. That makes the leaked preview screenshot look considerably less like an experiment and more like something Microsoft is gradually preparing for release.
A mouse cursor might seem too insignificant to deserve much attention, but small interface details can dramatically change how an operating system feels. Windows 11 has spent much of its life trying to leave behind decades-old Windows design elements, and the cursor is one of the most recognizable pieces of that legacy.
Microsoft hasn’t officially announced the redesign or said when, or even if, it will reach regular users.
