hi i cant stand using wmp, but every time i put in a cd, dvd or any kinda of removable data the context menu thing comes up and displays the option to play in windows media player, i am curious if there is anything to edit this so i can take things out of there or add things in you can see what i meen in the pic below thanks

hi today i was modifying my shell32.dll and i found a program that disables wfp for me, i deleted the program, forgot what it was called, but anyways is there any program that can re-enable it for me, the program did have some things to re-enabel it but it was rele confusing, also i am running xp x64 so just wanted to point that as a heads up cause not all tweak utilities support it thanks edit: false alarm fixed with wfpadmin you can close/delete this is you like

Hi all, I sit on a PC which don't have and Sound speakers connected to it and when i'm going to YouTube to watch a video ( i forget that there isn't any sound speaker) when the video finish i notice that there isn't and sound speaker. Yeah there is a sound card installed and its drive is also installed but no speakers. I search on the PC case and i found that the voice is coming from the PC speaker!! i also try to play songs (.mp3) with WMP and it work !! also can control the sound volume using the Sound and Audio Devices in the Control Panel !! ok its known to all that the vista sidebar for xp works great, for x86 xp, however will not do anything with xp x64, i dont know if i can get it to go, but something crossed my mind today which i think will result in a positive solution, however i need someone with vista x64 to upload the windows sidebar folder aswell as the following .dlls provided in the picture minus the manifest file thanks to whoever can help out ricktendo64, if i do get this working id like for you to see if perhaps you could make an inf installer for it or somthing cause i really liked how you did it in x86 thanks again

My computer has lost the ability to remember the order in which I place my desktop icons. Whenever my OS refreshes the desktop, or I must reboot, the icons return to some kind of default ordering. The Recycle Bin is even in the lower right corner again, like when XP is freshly installed. This happened over night one night. My machine runs 24/7. Overnight it scans for viruses, spyware, and does a full system back up. I woke up to the back up program (Acronis) stuck without completing. No programs would load. seems i cant seem to escape from these weird PC problems... so a friend of mine and i were almost done reinstalling windows xp on his laptop. the only things left to do were to get a few drivers so his sound/ethernet/SD card reader would work. we couldnt find the drivers on the manufacturer's website (only because he INSISTED i install 64-bit xp). so i tried MS update. sure enough the drivers were there, but the downloads never started. the Background Intelligent Transfer Service was set to manual, but would not start. this is a clean install of windows we're working with, and theres no reason BITS shouldnt be able to start...all dependencies are running, all necessary d…

Hi all I have nearly done my first unattended xp disc but i have a problem installing an application using RunonceEx I have currently 5 installers the first 4 work with no problems, but on the 5th i get a error saying that the installer cant run because something is using it. (it is MSI installer) the command line is correct as i tried it on its own and it installs as it should. I have tried to make the first RunOnceEx run a batch file to add a second runOnceEx (hoping it would do it after a reboot) but it just loads the second RunOnceEx before it reboots. also i have tried adding an entry into RunOnce to load my second runonceEx after its rebooted then rebooting a seco…

I had a look at flp at work and it seems nice. I downloaded a tool for unattended answer file from MS, can I add more to it? It seems that flp in in a strange format and nlite will not work on it. Is there a way to mod it to make it smaller and more secure?

Well, I just acquired a laptop for school. It's relatively old, but, it is designed for Windows XP and it has the OEM Sticker on the bottom. But since this was a local dumpster discount, theres no discs or anything. Hell, it didn't have ram, hdd, or batter + battery door. It's a Toshiba Satellite 1400. I got it all working, and I love the little computer. Anyway, my question is, is there anyway I can use the OEM cd key on the bottom for the install on this computer? The code obviously doesn't work on my reatial copy of XP Home Edition. So I was wondering if anyone here knew how to use the code. If so, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have installed the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor on my PC which is currently running Windows XP. When I open the programme and it works fine until I ask it to do a Scan of my computer and a message comes up saying there is a problem. I followed the advice it gives me, I have tried uninstalling it, reinstalling and rebooting all of which have done no good. Can someone tell me whats wrong.

Does anyone have/know where I can get a free BOOT disc for Windows XP Home Edition? I also need for it to have a formatting utility {so I can totally wipe my HDD} and a partitioning utility so I can partition my HDD after formatting. I'm using a Packard Bell so it didn't come with a BOOT disc

^so this is my problem: in most (but not all) programs where you must browse for a folder (foobar2000, Recuva, etc.), i cannot even see the folder treeview, much less browse for a folder, because the entire area is greyed out. Other than the shortcuts for the "Games" not appearing (not a big deal, I created them manually), my windows install went perfectly. And this is not a major issue...but for programs like Recuva where the "browse for folder" dialog is the ONLY way you can use the program, it's kind of important. OK, I have a friend that did not activate there XP. When they login, they get "windows has not been activated click Yes/No to activate now". If you press yes/no it restarts, and you get the same thing. You can boot to safe mode but only safe mode, no Safe mode with networking etc. or it will ask for activation Is there a way to repair this in safe mode? Any help would be fine, I am hoping that I will not have to reformat. Thank you.

Help! anybody out there had this problem: No progress bar at Windows update. (win XP home, SP2, IE 7) No green progress bar scrolls when attempting to check for updates at Windows Update. However the space for the progress bar is present. After a 60 to 90 second wait a window opens advising there are no priority updates available for my computer. So I am assuming the update is working but without the progress bar indicating it is searching.
