How To Install Windows 7 Or Wondows Vista Via USB;
USB Flash Drive (Minimum 4GB)
Windows 7 or Vista
Follow the simple steps below to create bootable Windows 7/Vista USB drive using which you can install Windows 7/Vista easily.
1. Plug-in your USB flash drive to USB port and move all the contents from USB drive to a safe location on your system.
2. Open Command Prompt as administrator.
3. Type in the following commands in the command prompt:
Type DISKPART and hit enter to see the below message.
Next type LIST DISK command and note down the Disk number of your USB flash drive.
4. So below are the commands you need to type and execute one by one:
SELECT DISK 3
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
SELECT PARTITION 1
ACTIVE
FORMAT FS=NTFS
(The Format Process Should Only Take Few Minutes)
ASSIGN
EXIT
Do not close the command prompt as you will need to execute one more command at the next step so Just minimize it for now.
5. Now insert your Windows7 or Vista DVD into the your drive and check the drive letter of the DVD drive. Lets assume that your DVD drive letter is "E" and your USB drive letter is "I"
6. Maximize the minimized Command Prompt and type in the following command now:
E: CD BOOT and hit enter. Where "E" is your DVD drive letter.
CD BOOT and hit enter to see the below message.
7. Type another command given below to update the USB drive with BOOTMGR compatible code.
BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 I:
Where "I" is your USB drive letter.
8. Copy your Windows 7/Vista DVD contents to the USB flash drive.
9. The only thing you need to change now is the boot priority in the BIOS to USB from the HDD or CD ROM drive.
Thats it now complete, now you can install your windows 7 or Vista from your USB!
Enjoy!

NIM reacted to Makcalable in Rebuiding Icon Cache For Windows Vista & 7
Rebuiding Icon Cache For Windows Vista & 7
Ok, if you are having problems with an icon that is blank or looking kinda odd for program you have installed on you pc, try uninstalling the offending program and then re install it, this will fix the issue normally.
However, sometimes it isn't that easy when a lot or all icons are blank. This is due to the icon cache being corrupted which can be caused by a number of things.
This will help guide you on how to correct your issue regarding blank icons by Deleting & rebuilding the icon cache;
Ok, to be able to rebuild the icon cache you will need to locate and delete the file which will be hidden by default.
(step 1) Firstly open Computer by going to > Start > Computer Is Located On Right Side of Menu;
(step 2) In the new Window Click Tools from the Menu > Select Folder Option;
(step 3) Now click the View tab > Select Show Hidden Files Folders and Drives and click Apply;
(step 4) Now go to computer as you did in step 1 then type in the address bar > %username%\AppData\Local and press Enter:
Now locate the Icon Cache File and simply delete it;
Now all you need to do now is restart your PC and this will automatically rebuild the Icon Cache to its normal self.
Thats it done, all your icons should be displayed as normal.
Hope you found this useful!

NIM reacted to Makcalable in Identify & Resolve Issues In Windows
If you are finding you have some issues in Windows like slow startUp/slow shut down/error's/generally running slow/driver's not working correctly/corrupt files/ etc.... then take a look at the brief list of things below to try and resolve any issues;
This is just a brief discription of how to run these tools that are built into the windows system.
Event Viewer = Start >Type in Search Box > eventvwr.msc Hit enter
This will show you the Event Viewer log, you can view the scan results of Check Disk scan and in Windows 7 and Vista and also show applications & services logs too.
Performance Report = Start >Type in Search Box > perfmon /report Hit enter
This report will include a whole load of things about how your system is running and show any issues, here are just a few of them:
Diagnostic Results Warnings, Performance, Software Configuration, OS Checks, Security Center Information, System Services, Startup Programs
Disk, Hot files, Disk breakdown, Physical disk, NTFS Performance, CPU, Process, Service, Services, System, Hardware Configuration, Disk Checks, Systems, Desktop Rating, BIOS, Devices
Memory, Processes, Counters,Network
Device Manager = Start >Type in Search Box > devmgmt.msc Hit enter
If you are experiencing driver issues of some sort and/or not working properly you can go to the Device Manager to look for any discrepancies by looking for Yellow Exclamation marks next to the driver info.
System File Checker = Open Command Prompt As Administrator & Type sfc /scannow Hit enter
The System File Checker will look for any system files/.dll file's that are corrupt and will attempt to fix these normally following a re start of your computer.
This can also be run in safemode too by selecting Safemode with command prompt privilage.
Microsoft System Configuration Utility = Start > Type in Search Box > msconfig Hit enter
msconfig allows you to disable some of the unnecessary programs that automatically load on startup, disabling these programs will help your computer boot faster and crash less and help in identifying any issues.
Windows Memory Diagnostics = Start > Type in Search Box > memory Hit enter
The windows memory diagnostics includes a set of memory tests so if you are experiencing problems while running Windows you can use the diagnostic to determine whether the problems are caused by failing hardware, such as Ram or evn the memory system of your motherboard.
Check Disk = Start > Type in Search Box > chkdsk Hit enter
Chkdsk analyzes the physical structure of a disk to make sure that it is healthy and It can repair problems related to bad sectors, lost clusters, and directory errors.
These types of problems can be caused in many different ways ie. System crashes or freezes, power glitches, incorrectly turning off a computer can also cause corruption in the system files etc..
Hope You Found This Useful!

NIM reacted to Mr_Smartepants in The Linux advantage - Why Linux is the best OS
Looks like FUD can be used by both sides.
I'm not a M$ fanboy. I use both Win7 & Linux. They're tools. I don't favor one brand of screwdriver for the same reasons.
This article is so full of lies I don't know where to start.
False. The only time a reboot is required is when the change affects the currently logged in user permissions or when a change to an in-use file is required. Linux acts in a similar way when applying patches. The changes are either applied immediately to files not in use or 'staged' for the next reboot for core system files.
False. In my organization we've been mapping drive letters in the user space in our multi-user environments for at least the past 6 years. On 2k3 server/XP through 2k8 server/Vista configurations. All works perfectly fine.
We always use the same 3 letters (of course others are available): O-Official, R-Restricted, S-Shared. All are available to each machine regardless of how many users are logged in at the same time.
Damn, even my home network works fine mapping my two NAS shares to multiple users AT THE SAME TIME.
Although I agree that hard-mapping A & B to a non-existent floppy drive is just plain stupid for a modern OS.
Again false. No company "bets their future" on one technology. The phrase "all the eggs in one basket" comes to mind.
I don't have time to pick out all the lies in this (old?) article but there are loads more. In fact, the whole article stinks like bullsh*t and is probably just troll-bait.
Linux has one MAJOR downfall that WILL prevent it from going mainstream (if it hasn't killed it's chances yet). And that is OS fragmentation. (Android is just beginning to see this affect)
If you install an app written for "MacOS" or "Windows", it will work on that platform.
Try doing that for Linux and be prepared to answer way more questions than you should need to.
1) what distro?
2) what architecture?
3) what package type?
4) what package manager?
etc.
If Linux is to succeed, then the core upstream vendors (RedHat, Debian, Gentoo, Slackware, etc.) need to get together and UNIFY the application installer spec. I shouldn't have to care if an app is distributed as a .deb, .rpm, .tar.gz, or any other package types. Once the core vendors step in line, the rest of the downstream distros will also.
I should just be able to download, click, and run.
Until that happens, Linux will ultimately fail on the desktop.

NIM reacted to MGadAllah in Internet Cafe Security Tips
Internet Cafe Security Tips
The majority of Internet cafes worldwide use Windows-based operating systems, which are subject to massive malware/virus and security-related attacks. Still, many users are not fully aware of the danger of surfing the web in an Internet cafe. This article will explain the dangers, and show you how to surf the Internet safely from an Internet cafe.
There are two basic dangers that one must be aware of when using an Internet cafe.
First, lots of these Internet cafes do not offer much protection in the way of user privacy. This means they have inadequate firewalls and real-time antivirus software. As a result, any active malware, such as a Trojan, can steal a lot of personal information from you, including your user login and password.
Second, Internet cafes sometimes use third party software or hardware to intercept packets (using an eavesdropping technique). This, again, can lead to abuse. Particularly if personal data is collected, such data can be used to steal your online identity.
This tutorial will guide beginning users of Internet cafes in how to increase the level of online protection, in such a way that using them can be as safe as possible.
Bear in mind that, although this tutorial will do its best to protect online users of public Internet cafes, nothing is entirely safe when using public computers and the Internet. For complete privacy and protection, you are advised to use your own computer/laptop, as well as a network which you have full confidence in its being secure.
Basic Preparation: Encrypt Data on Your Own USB Flash Drive
One of the first things you need to secure before you use an Internet cafe is your own USB Flash drive. Bring this along, as this will be used to store your files when you are using an Internet cafe.
Of course you need to protect your files and data inside the USB flash drive. A good rule is to always encrypt the file that contains a password. Suppose you have a notepad file that consists of a long list of usernames and passwords of different websites; a common mistake is to leave it in the form of a .txt file and save it on a USB flash drive.
Some malware scripts are programmed to scan these types of files and harvest passwords. So you need to ensure that you are protecting your sensitive data from being read and accessed.
The best tool that can offer protection to this kind of file, such as encryption, is Keepas. This tool is free. Once you download the classic edition, follow these steps to use it:
1. Right click on the downloaded file (e.g. KeePass-1.18) and then unzip the archive.
2. This will extract the folder named, for example, KeePass-1.18. The screen shot below shows you what the contents of this folder should be:
3. In the folder, double click Keepas.exe then go to File -> New.
4. Now type a master password, something that is easy to remember but not too simple.
5. Check "Use master password and key file."
6. Under "Key File," select C: pwsafe.key, assuming that your main Windows hard drive is drive C. Click OK.
Important: For security reasons, it is recommended that you use a unique key file, not just the default Keepas provided key file. You can use any key file you like; please refer to Keepas documentation for details.
7. Type the "master password" again; enter the same password you used in step 5, and then click OK.
8. Under "Get Random data for key generation," click "User Mouse as Random source," and then move your mouse until the bar field is full. Click OK.
9. Go to Edit -> Add Entry. Go ahead and type all username/password entry combinations that you are going to use when you are in the Internet caf

NIM reacted to MGadAllah in htaccess SEO and Security Tips
htaccess SEO and Security Tips
This is a beginner's guide to htaccess. It is meant to introduce this configuration file and its useful implementations in website management. .htaccess is a server configuration file commonly found in Apache, Zeus and Sun Java System web servers. It provides a lot of applications with implications for website security and search engine optimization. You cannot find or use .htaccess in Microsoft-based IIS servers and non-Apache-based servers. To create and upload an htaccess file:
1. Open any text editor (such as geditor in Ubuntu or notepad in Windows).
2. Enter the htaccess syntax you would like to implement on your website (at the text file).
3. Save it as .htaccess
Note: There is a "." before the filename, and there is no file extension to it; just .htaccess
4. Upload it to a directory where you would like the directives to be implemented. An htaccess uploaded to the root directory of your website will cover all of the website's directories and files (from root to inner).
But if you upload only the .htaccess file to a specific inner directory, the directives on that .htaccess file can be only be implemented in that specific directory.
IMPORTANT: If you have an existing .htaccess in your website and you plan to edit it, it is extremely important to secure a backup of that .htaccess first, before doing anything else.
301 redirecting old/dead URL to new URL
Suppose you have URLs, and then you delete them because they are no longer needed. You need to replace them with new URLs (by re-publishing content, for example, or shortening your URLs).
With respect to SEO implementation, this approach can cause you to lose a lot of traffic and link juice, because those old URLs might be contributing a very significant amount of traffic and links to your website.
What is the best solution? Instead of giving those URLs a 404 header status (not found, or does not anymore exist), you need to 301 redirect those non-existing URLs to their new, permanent location.
With this method, if those dead URLs are still indexed by Google, any users coming from search engines or other websites can still read and visit the new URLs because they have been "301 redirected."
To do this, you can use .htaccess to do the 301 redirects. For example:
HTACCESS SYNTAX:
redirect 301 /2009/04/how-to-make-blogger-post-title-unique.html http://www.php-devel...t-title-unique/
redirect 301 /about/ http://www.php-devel...g/about-codexm/
There are two 301 redirection commands above; the first is to 301 redirect:
http://www.php-devel...tle-unique.html
TO:
http://www.php-devel...t-title-unique/
The second redirection is to 301 redirect:
http://www.php-developer.org/about/
TO:
http://www.php-devel...g/about-codexm/
What if you have a URL with spaces? For example: http://www.php-devel...tutorials/Excel database functions sample sheets.xls
Then you will need to use a double quote in the 301 redirection line, e.g:
HTACCESS SYNTAX:
redirect 301 "/wp-content/uploads/tutorials/Excel database functions sample sheets.xls" http://www.php-devel...-sample-sheets/
The above line will 301 redirect that URL with spaces to this new location: http://www.php-devel...-sample-sheets/
Note: 301 redirection implementations using .htaccess will be uploaded to the root directory of your website. If you have an existing .htaccess, you will simply need to edit it and add the redirection lines. You will not need to actually create a brand-new .htaccess.
Disable hot linking to save website bandwidth
If you have a website in which you are hosting fairly large files like MP3s, video files and audio wave files, then someone outside your domain might be tempted to take advantage of your website's resources by directly streaming/linking to it, without paying a single penny for bandwidth use.
Why is this not good? Your website's bandwidth (for which you are paying with your hosting bills) is being substantially consumed by unauthorized persons. This is known as "bandwidth theft" and includes stealing pictures from your website by reusing them in another website (NOT in your website).
Abuse can slow down your site and weaken your website security. This is where you can use .htaccess to prevent this.
For example, say you want to prevent "hot linking" for the following file types mp3, jpg and wav audio files. You want to allow only your own domain (e.g yourdomain.org) to access them; other domains are restricted.
HTACCESS SYNTAX:
## DISABLE HOTLINKING
RewriteEngine on
# Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www.)?yourdomain.org/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule .(mp3|jpg|wav)$ - [F]
Again, if you upload the .htaccess file to the root directory of your website, all of your website directories and files will be protected against hot linking, as stated in your .htaccess file.
Adding more than one domain to hot link to your site
There are times when you have several websites and you need to hotlink to the images, perhaps for convenience and saving disk space. In this case, if you implemented the above .htaccess syntax, then your website will not be permitted to access those images.
You can grant permission to any website to access and "hot link" your web content (images, etc). For example:
HTACCESS SYNTAX:
## DISABLE HOTLINKING
RewriteEngine on
# Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www.)?yourdomain.org/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www.)?seochat.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule .(mp3|jpg|wav)$ - [F]
The .htaccess lines above allow seochat.com to hot link to yourdomain.org website (in addition to yourdomain.org, of course).

NIM reacted to YumeYao in [Addon] Windows Media Player 10 for XP/MCE/2k3 3.4.5
Windows Media Player 10 With Windows Media Connect 2 & Windows Media 11 Runtimes
For Windows XP/MCE/2k3, Last Updated 2011/6/29
Description:
This addon will replace your Windows Media Player Component in your windows installation CD with its contents.
This version is named V3.
V1 is based on Ryan's work, i translated it into Chinese that time.
V2 is somehow similar to Onepiece's WMP11 Addon. We did the same thing that is modifying the default wmp.inf and associated files rather than Ryan & boooggy's "Install WMP9 then Install WMP10/11" method.(although we achieve file copying via different ways)
Both V1 and V2 are only in Chinese/Japanese. Now since some people need a up-to-date WMP 10 Addon, so I decide to also release V3 in English.
Here is V3. It has several points over V2:
Compatibility with XP/MCE/2k3 in one Addon. MCE Updates included. for 2k3, M$ does not install skins but this addon does.
Windows Media Formats, DRM Management, WUDF and other runtimes are Version 11(ripped from WMP11).
Obsolete files are removed. They are either utility to migrate DRM stuffs or a file with several KiloBytes which is used to overwrite the old file.
Addon structure: File Copy handling and Registry improvements
Contents:
Windows Media Player 10(Player Only) 10.0.0.3802
Windows Media Player 11(Runtimes Only) 11.0.5721.5262

Credits:
nonno fabio and OnePiece Alb, without their wmp/ie7 addon i wouldn't have realized it's possible to handle file copying like this.
(although i managed to achieve it when i released V2, but my method is kinda "cheating"...)
Ryan and boooggy, for their first-hand wmp addons. although they are old yet still good.
