  1. I make some more fun:

    Here I compare a 12600 against an i980 on a x58 Sabertooth board with generic XP SP3.

This x58 board has onboard USB3 (Nec, 214MByte/s RW) and also 6 GByte Sata (Sata3).

Voila, geekbench 2 shows about 14000 points for the 12600 cpu and about 12000 points for the i980 cpu.

Hm, this means nearly no difference in speed in 11 years old cpu

    Dietmar

PS: All USB works with the nice win8 driver from @Mov AX, 0xDEAD .

  2. I make some tests with the Alder lake 12600 cpu on the Biostar Valkyre z690A board under XP SP3 with all updates.

This cpu has only 6 power cores, 12 threads exact as the 8700k, no E-cores.

    Now comes bad surprise:

Even in benchmark they told, that this cpu should be as fast as the 11900k,

    this is a lie.

    CinebenchR11.5 shows 15.01 Points on 12600 cpu

    and

    CinebenchR11.5 shows 14.57 Points on 8700k.

    Geekbench2.4 shows   17920  points on 12600

    and

    Geekbench2.4 shows  19517  points on 8700k.

This Benchmark results from the 12600 cpu fit nearly exact with my

    AMD Ryzen 1700x cpu.

    Another bad effect I noticed:

With the same cooler, the 12900k cpu reaches 56 degree when power consumption

    is about 104 Watt.

But for the 12600 cpu, with 40 Watt the termperature reaches 58 degree.

May be, that this is a problem, how the speed of the Dark 4 Pro cooler is set,

depending on Watt and temperature on the Biostar z690A board

    Dietmar

PS: Serial debug does not work on any of the z690 boards, even with integrated COM port Serial Windbg not works.

  3. @infuscomus @Dallen

Best for XP nvme boot is an Intel Optane drive,

    I have Optane 905p with 960 Gbyte.

No need for any trim on this Optane nvme device.

It is still the fastest nvme of all.

But hard to find now and very expensive.

Normal nvme device you can choose, whatever you want for XP.

The newer the nvme drive, the more bad its quality.

I prefer Samsung 950 Pro (very special nvme with own Bios),

    960 Pro, 970 Pro, 980 Pro.

The best nvme driver for XP is this one, ported from Win8.1 by @Mov AX, 0xDEAD

    https://ufile.io/i6arez1e

I would not use the Samsung nvme driver because of its crazy filterdriver

  4. I test also the Msi pro z690-a ddr4 board with 12900k cpu for XP SP3.

Only with the very first Bios

    7D25v10
    2021-09-15

I succeed to boot XP SP3 (only after CMOS reset).

On the PS/2 slot keyboard and mouse do not work together, only one each.

Not possible in Bios to deselect the less powerful E-cores.

Under XP SP3, restart also does not work, compi hangs on reboot.

    I dont like this board.

Very much I like the Asrock z690 Extreme, where you can set a lot in Bios.

And this is the only board until now, that works flawless under XP SP3 with 12900k cpu and 32 Gbyte ram. I can boot XP from Harddisk, USB, nvme, ram, all works on this nice board

    Dietmar

  5.

I make some test on the Asrock Extreme z690 board,

which is best until now for XP SP3 from all z690 boards, that I tested.

When you disable ALL of the less powerfull E-cores in Bios from 12900k cpu,

the crash of Firefox Browser is gone.

    But what is this:

Geekbench and Cinebench suddently show with remaining 8 P cores nearly exact

the same Benchmark tests as an 8700k cpu^^.

Advance looks other in my eyes 🙃🙃🙃

  6. I noticed the crash always when closing Firefox or Basilisk browser also on other

    z690 mainboards. Bsod is 0xC0000005,

basilisk or one of its files write in not allowed memory.

The crash is not serious, but always wants to send message about this crash.

It happens because of a driver(?), but which?

And now I do not think, that it is the Nvidia driver in 1. place.

Because when I do a Diagnostic start of XP SP3 (command line "msconfig", first "diagnostic start" only very few drivers),

the crash of Firefox does not happen, even Nvidia and Internet still work.

EDIT: I make a new test with a brandnew install of original XP SP3,

only with modded acpi.sys and the Storahci driver from Kai Schtrom. Firefox works without any crash until the Nvidia driver is installed. No other driver at work, all disabled.

At once after reboot with installed Nvidia driver, even without installed networkdriver(!), Firefox crashes on closing.

So, it is a real crash of Firefox and also Basilisk on z690 boards

together with Nvidia driver, here for GT 730 but also for GTX 980

  7. @Andalu

    Here ist the PEMaker082 tool

    https://ufile.io/gcrpygb8

And yes, the Minitool is from MDL.

When you use the Ramsey XP SP3,

you only have to set "Live USB". Then you have at once USB mouse and keyboard.

Other way is, to use an XP that has already USB from an other compi with generic Sata driver from Kai Schtrom or @Mov AX, 0xDEAD

    Dietmar

PS: And 3. (hard) way is to make use of an unattended install of XP via WINNT.SIF

    for example

    https://www.pc-erfahrung.de/windows/anleitungen/windows-xp-unattended-installation-winntsif-teil-1.html

    Yes,

  8. Just now I am installing XP SP3 on an Asrock z690 Extreme board

with Intel 12900k cpu and 32 Gbyte ram.

Until now, this is the best and most stable board for XP,

    Dietmar

PS: I noticed a strange behavior of the Firefox or Basilisk browser

on all z690 boards. Firefox always crashes when closed.

This does not happen in Safe Mode F8. After some tests I noticed,

that is connected with the Nvidia Graphikdriver. No crash without Nvidia. Even I updated the Bios, this behavior stays.

I think it has to do, how the Firefox browser managed memory.

So it comes in conflict with the Nvidia driver.

With Internet Explorer or Chrome Browser all is ok.

PS: This is via USB3 boot.

  9. Here it is,

XP SP3 on the Gigabyte z690 ud ddr4 board with 12900k cpu.

Stable, PS/2 mouse and PS/2 keyboard work together at the PS/2 connector,

    nice, stable, cheap.

Much more stable than the Biostar z690 board,

    and cost only half😛.

But only last Bios F6 works for CSM and XP.

And no CD Rom as boot device is recogniced.

I tested this on 2 different boards, with all Bios versions,

with changing settings in Bios, with Plop, with grub4dos.

With another CD Rom drive, test all Sata ports.

Plop tells, no Int13 device can be found.

So the people from Gigabyte just kick out CD Rom as a boot device. Later you can see the CD Rom drive in XP, but not for boot.

Any Bios for this board is a nightmare.

But the board is rock stable under XP SP3 and no Timer problem,

because the board uses from itself its hardware timer
