  1. Ave's Extra Desktops

    Description

Extra Desktops is an application that allows to use extra desktops, besides the normal desktop. Use a desktop for storing your downloads, use one filled with your regularly played MP3, use another one for the files of that project you are currently working on.

With ExtraDesktops, there is no need anymore to browse to all these folders you regularly use: simply hit a key, and the files are right there on your desktop!

An extra desktop in List-view mode (not possible on the Vista's desktop)

    Notes

    * Might work on XP also, but with reduced functionality (untested)

    * Shadowed text does not work on all view modes.

    * The configuration dialog is currently only accesible on the main desktop.

    * You have to press the hotkey for a desktop if you want it to be visible

    * If a hotkey is not working, it is in use by another application

    * If the application does not install correctly, make sure you have Visual Studio 2005 SP1 Runtime Files: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en

    * The current download will expire on January 28, 2008.

Ok i know this is only a preview application that will expire on the 28th of this month but i thought id share it as its so cool/fun :thumbsup_anim:.

It lets you browse to a folder on your Computer and assign it as a separate Desktop which will appear when pressing a HotKey and all folders/files in the chosen folder will appear on the desktop when activated :)

  2. Looks cool, but I'm a bit worried with the "use at your own risk" part :sweatingbullets:

I was a little put off by that at first but decided to try it since I'm still messing with Vista and dont really mind if i need to reinstall it, but if I'm honest I'm quite impressed by the application and have had no problems as of yet, the only thing i noticed was that when i first boot up my machine i have no user pic for a few moments until the program loads in which is to be expected.

I dont think its XP compatible.

  3. Just been browsing around and found this cool little program :thumbsup_anim:

    Description

In the old longhorn 4xxx days, the startmenu user picture was more animated as it was today. Today, we get a cheap alpha-fading effect when you hover over an item: the user picture simply blends with the icon for a while.

Back in the days, the user picture was actually rotating when you had the start menu opened. This application tries to achieve that effect.

    What's new?

+ stabilized the thing (less crashes)

+ Now changes the icon also when you hover over other startmenu items!

    + some extra rendering settings

    Todo

+ Cooler and more longhorn-esque animation DONE thx to bryant

+ Add support for the browse-pane (the pane you get when you start search-typing)

    Known problems

+ some icons render with a smaller size. This is a limitation of the system and in my opinion a "bug". IImageList2::GetOriginalSize returns E_NOTIMPL, which means cannot get the original icon size since MS programmers did not implement that behaviour (yet). FIXED by Andreas with a workaround

    Beware!

This application injects code into explorer.exe, hooks into the startmenu windows and also uses internal data-structures which may result in extra crashes. Therefore, usage is on own risk.

'I personally think dreamscene users might suffer...!'

    Or download from here

    Thanks Again to AndreasV :)

If you experience problems try installing this.

USE AT OWN RISK as siad in the original message, but it works fine for me iv even added it to my startup :icon_cool:

  4. Hi again, i know this isn't professional fix but iv been running vista without problems for a few days now, what did was delete 120,121 images from within the basebrd.dll then open up imageres.dll with res hack and edit the logon screen, like i said its not very professional but its simple and effective :P

The logon screen is seen while logging in/out and when you press Ctrl+Alt+Dlt

  6. Good Tut, but could you upload the Images another place ?

    Because i don't have a JOE JOE user :(

    BOOOOOOOO.... A fellow Sony Ericsson |-|4C|<3R 103.gif

I'm also intrested in editing the basebrd.dll file, but whenever i edit the image your also wanting to edit i either loose the image completely or it dont do anything, i've been reading that we need to edit the basebrd.dll.mui file to, but when i look in it with resource hacker i cannot see the file i've been told to edit :confused02:, its one of the few skinning tweeks i want to do, alone with the image at the right of the Control Panel (same thing happens as with basebrd'dll), if i make any more progress ill pass the info on :type:

  7. The best way to tweak Vista is a reformat and XP install.

You dont know how many times that thought has ran through my mindbsod.gif

But hey a "Legal" copy of Vista albe it Home Basic is better then an illegal copy of XP right?
