I tried the pack on Windows 7 64Bits (RC build 7100) and most of apps don't work
-
thanks kel for accepting my suggestions
this version is perfect
-
Thank Kel for all the time you spend on this project
I don't know if it's better to remove msconfig cpl too since it's the same of regedit one (I always use "run" command to load regedit or msconfig)
If you want to keep it maybe you could remove the text inside () since it's the only control panel app with () in the name

Hi Kel
Some suggestions:
- I ask to add ECC back. I know CCleaner is good to clean cookies as well, but I think ECC is better. It is able to identify and delete "expired cookies only" and this is a big feature since CCleaner just allows you to choose them manually with no infos about their validity status
- I think you should remove Timezone utility since Vista already has the built-in feature to show different time zones (in the clock properties)
- I think this package is better than original CPL's bonus pack because it includes less tools. I also tried it on XP and it works fine. The only app that gives error is "screen saver powertoy". All others tools are perfect. So I think you could remove this tool (since it's not important one) and have a single installer for both XP and Vista systems optimizing resources
P.S.
Some tools, like GPU-Z, need to be updated
-
Thanks Kel for the update
I saw you removed some apps... are they incompatible with Vista? (I'm asking because I have old 2.2 version installed)
About merging:
you could create an unique installer that check for os version (Vista or XP) and installs compatible apps only
I don't know if it's possible
-
I think it needs some updates (as seen in bonus pack 9.2.5)
Maybe you should merge the two projects

Hello Rick,
any news about localized versions of this addon?
P.S.
Merry Christmas and happy 2009
-
Once I finish this I will open up the requests for me translating it into more langs, you will have to do a little translating of one of the INF files (plusoc.inf) and upload the MSI with the mui files plus I will explain the steps I took to do this
Happy to read this, rick
I'm available to help you with italian translation, I'll wait for your instructions
P.S.
Is the package installable on running Windows XP right-clicking on the inf file, just like the Sidebar?
-
Thanks Kel for this great add-on
Can you release a silent installer to use on already installed Windows like the CPL pack?
Thanks again
-
1- If you don't use nLite you can install the Sidebar manually. First install Alky for Applications 1.1, now extract Ricks_WindowsSidebar_Intl_Alky*1.1_AddOn.7z to a sub-folder...right click on Sidebar.inf and rest is self explanatory.
Is reboot after Alky installation still needed? I mean on manual install
I'm asking because it's not specified in your instructions

hi rick
please, is it possible to have italian version of this pack (like localized versions of Sidebar)?
I have italian version of Windows MCE and I can send you italian files if you need them to create localized pack
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi Rick,
here is the link for patched files you requested (I tried the ones posted by Sheikaln and sidebar.exe doesn't seem to work, it has wrong file size):
http://www.mediafire.com/?c4m1xbirly2
Also here is a better translation for the localized strings
Sheiklan translation is good but this version is more Microsoft-style (I used same words of Office and Windows installations) so it makes it looking more "original"
Italian strings:
InsTitle ="Installazione di Windows Sidebar"InstQuest="Installare Windows Sidebar?"
InsFinal ="Congratulazioni, Windows Sidebar
-
Thanks Rick, it was a problem with .gadget association
-
hi kel, is it possible to add siw to the pack?
It's very useful tool, one exe only with no installation and in the download section there is the cpl file
-
Ok, give me a few minutes and I'll provide the files
-
hi rick, a little question:
when I manually install the sidebar right clicking on the inf file, is the "gadget installer" installed as well?
-
Sure Rick, just tell me how to apply fade skin to sidebar.exe (also if I have to patch before apply the skin or the opposite)
-
Thanks Sheiklan for fixing the errors
I have some suggestions about the translation of strings.
Can I write them here? If it's not a problem for you
-
When I get what I ask for on the 1st post from an Italian guy like you
Italian stuff posted in the translation requests topic
Thanks in advance Rick for your work
-
Thanks for the info Rick
Do you think it's better to wait a fix for SP1 Sidebar and release the add-on directly with the updated version?
-
You are right, I just red Rafael posts on aeroxp forum
Happy to hear that
P.S.
Why to close the Alky project if it will live on another name? Legal reasons?
-
Hello Rick,
is it correct that, if I manually install your addon on a running system, the Gadget Installer by Thomas Pleasance is not installed?
Or is it not included into the addon at all?
If it's so, can you include it in future versions?
thanks in advance for the answer

Just talked to him and I can confirm he is working on a update, he will be changing the name of alky, also the libraries will be named to much smaller filenames example:
vkernel32.dll to vk32.dll
It seems alky project is dead :(

I made further tests... these apps seem to work on 64bits:
CPU-Z
GPU-Z
HD Tune
HWMonitor
MemTest
MS Config
Services and Devices
Smart Driver Backup
DirectX
HP USB Format Tool
Windows Version
I suggest to create a 64bit pack version with these apps only (I also suggest to verify if there are specific 64 bits versions of them and of the non-working apps)
