Will a SSD still help even if I dont have sata 2 or 3?

Or do I need rapid storage tech

BTW everything is super, just got a new router (thanks for asking)

Rick -

I am certain that the ICH10 is AT LEAST a SATA II interface. Maybe Sata III.

And YES, an SSD will make ANY Sata-based system boot faster, run faster, and shut down faster.

You will wonder how you ever did without it, once you get an SSD into your rig.

I am a BIG fan of the Samsung 830 series (I have a 64GB and 2 128GB) and all my stuff is Sata II, except for the add-in boards that use either sata III or PCIe (smokin!).

The Apricorn folks have a new model

http://www.apricorn.com/products/desktop-ssd-hdd-upgrade-kits/vel-solox2.html

that can RAID tow drives together on the Sata III bus. Remember that RAID controllers for the most part do NOT support TRIM.

BOTTOM LINE: get the biggest SSD you can afford, connect it to the fastest motherboard-based connection, and do a clean install of windows.

Awe-Some!

See you at Warp Speed, bro.

Actually Crucial M4 & Intel 335 are pretty affordable.

You dont need ultrafast SSD, as Sata-II will bottleneck it anyway and ofcourse 95% modern SSD`s regardless of Brand are fatser than Sata-II

Hi Lego,

I have never asked, but I wonder what did you mean by 'starting to fail'. Reason why I ask is because I have also bought Corsair SSD (as you have recommended :) and I use it only for OS+apps. If it fails I won't loose anything except I'll have to reinstall my OS+apps, but I still would like to know how SDD starts to fail.

Hi, @Legolas2go

Do not forget to align when yo get the new ssd. Otherwise it will work like a standart Mechanic HDD :dizzy:

Interested, I'll have to check this.

I have published a small article some time ago for best practices for SSD drives, but didn't know about partition alignement.

S.M.A.R.T told me everytime my computer switched on. Eventually, Windows 8 started telling me.

FYI: I have never had to align any SSD on my WIN 7 systems and I have had many many... in fact I do ALL my physical image testing using SSD's due to the significant time savings it gives me.

Here are some great guides: http://thessdreview.com/ssd-guides/optimization-guides/

Here is another good guide: http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?79848-THE-BASIC-GUIDE-amp-FAQ-ABC-for-OCZ-SSD

My SSD is 'Out-for-delivery' and i've already started to prepare my Windows 8 disk ready for installation. I can't believe Windows 8 already has like 61 updates already :/

My Hotfix folder is up to 977MB.  Next patch day, it will more than likely be over the 1GB mark!  It's just crazy how much of Win8 has been changed in just a few short months.  Not good.
