cro-man
Click to enlargeU.K. firm Jade Integration has unveiled a computer so small, it fits into a wall socket and is powered via Ethernet. The Jack PC, a rival to the smallest PC in the world, can hook up to a standard monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and runs Windows CE, the stripped-down version of Windows often used in portable devices. It comes with up to 64 MB of flash memory and 128 megs of RAM, so don't expect to play Half-Life 2 on it, but it should be able to handle basic Internet functions decently. Some geek talk... The units utilise the latest AMD Au 1550 RISC processors running at either 333 or 500MHz. That's the equivalent of a 800MHz or 1.2GHz x86 desktop processor. They have either 32 or 64MB flash memory to store the operating system (Windows CE .NET 4.2/5) and 64 or 128MB RAM. They can be powered either through a plug on the front or, ideally, using Power over Ethernet (PoE). PoE means the unit is powered over existing structured network cabling from a suitable PoE switch or PoE power injector.
