NoRCoTI v1.0

NIM

Recommended Posts

NoRCoTI (No Right-Click on Tray Icon) disables to right-click on

a specific tray icon.

Usage:

------

Place a 16x16 icon of the program in the current working directory.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+T if you want to exit NoRCoTI.

Working:

--------

NoRCoTI does not have any user interface. If it cannot find the icon

in its path, then it'll present a file open dialog box and will copy

the icon to the working directory.

To check if NoRCoTI is working properly, move your mouse over the

tray icon of the program you specified. The scroll-lock light on the

keyboard should turn on. It will turn off as soon as the mouse is

moved away from the tray icon.

Tips for extracting the 16x16 icon:

-----------------------------------

Open the main EXE file of the program you want to protect using an

icon editing program like IconWorkshop or Icon Sushi (freeware).

If a 16x16 icon isn't present in the EXE, then you'll need to resize

any larger icon to 16x16 and save it.

Only extract that 16x16 icon which has the highest colors (ie choose

WinXP or 32 bit over 24/16/8/4 bits)

The file doesn't contain any virus. It was compressed with UPX which is why there are a few false alerts. (I wouldn't call three = "several"). Infact, if you upload the UPX binary itself, you'll see that there's a similar pattern of results : http://www.virustotal.com/vt/en/resultadof...7e0d58a0b64f652

As you can see, the top AVs such as Kaspersky, NOD32 and BitDefender haven't detected it. Even Avast and AVG shows a negative.

Please don't take the results of VirusTotal seriously, unless atleast 50% of the scanners show a positive.

Finally, the best way to determine if a file is harmful or not is not by scanning with malware scanners, but by executing it in a sandboxed environment and monitoring it for what changes it makes to the system. You may also use a packet sniffer like WireShark to check what data a file is sending over the network (if any).

Simply scanning a file with an AntiVirus doesn't prove the harmfulness or the harmlessness of a file.

Oh, and incase your office network uses eSafe / Panda or WebWasher and you don't want their AVs to go bonkers, you can download the non-UPX compressed file from here:
