Memory chips were individually plugged into the card. Programming languages were usually BASIC, and ... Turbo Basic! LOL Ah, the good old days. 8" floppies, mainframes with 14" removable disc packs with total capacity in the 10's of MB. Hey, at least these systems had gotten past paper tape/ punch cards/ cassette tape storage and some of them were even in color, if you used a TV as a display. Good times!
