Because paint.net require .net. Waste of time and space...

Try Photofiltre its tiny, free and portable.

I could reply to that and say "you don't have a clue what you're talking about" but that wouldn't be right.

Yes, it requires Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0, but a majority of GOOD programs these days do. So in the long run, it's not a bad investment.

Paint.NET is free, too. It is also quite functional.

Though just looking at PhotoFiltre, it also looks pretty good.

Anyway.

You're better off getting either of them. They are both good IMO. Don't use GIMP because it's the second slowest Photo-editing program on the planet. First is Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Is there a way to modify XP's Paint's default palette to match Vista's (in my opinion, more useful) palette?

:) You can use Resource Hacker or any res editor (for file resource) and Photoshop (for bitmaps) or instantly download the hacked Vista like paint from Here and use it on Xp

Btw Ricktendo has made original Vista apps (ported to Xp!) add on (Notepad, Paint, and Calculator) which require Alky http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=682
