Ok guys and gals....

Im going to be purchasing a video card, today or tomorrow...

Looking for some advice.....

I was thinking about a Radeon 6970, or two radeon 6870's...

What do you think?

All info and thoughts are appreciated....

Go for a single 6870. At the resolution you plan to run, you'll get nowhere near saturating this card. Even at 1680x1050 (sweet spot for 22" panels) you'll be fine. The 6870 is quieter than the 6970, which would sound like a dustbuster. Anything higher would sound like a jet taking off.

Later, if you need the extra power, you can get a second 6870 for peanuts in a few months. ;)

According to this review, the 6870 is faster than Nvidia's fastest single GPU card.

Although, if you NEED the most power you can afford, ALWAYS go for the more powerful single card that your PSU will support. Never overwhelm your PSU.

lol that review is just for bitcoin mining, which is much different use compared to games. 6870 gets smoked buy a lot of newer nvidia cards.

but for 1680x1050, i'd say anything over 6870 is overkill. but also depends on your cpu as well.

on nvidia side, something comparable (actually a little faster by 10%-ish) would be a gtx 560. but, those are also more expensive by about $20+ so probably not worth it.

anyways, a friendly recommendation would be this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=u0t3151160f9fp0dd0c0s701&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16814150521 general rule is two fans are better than 1, should be a tad bit quieter and cooler compared to the stock fan

i'd say out of the video card companies xfx is pretty decent. along with evga. plus you can get dirt 3 and shogun total war as a bonus

just make sure to register on their site to activate your warranty.

As already said, go for one stronger card, rather than two in Crossfire mode (if that's still the name :)

I know that I once read that second card in Crossfire mode only gives like 30% of it's performance, but can't be sure what's the case now in the means of 2 card performance.

In this case 1 > 2!

Might be a bit late, but for others' sakes; search here if you're in USA:
