Could not start service on local computer error: 5 Access Denied

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm installing VNC program on an XP pro domain user member. I was able to install the progran using the 'run as" options, but I'm unable to start the service. I get the following error message:

Could not start VNC Server service on local computer error: 5 Access denied

Any suggestions would be appreciated

This is how we do it in our domain:

- create a service/batch domain account (like you normally create a user account)

- in the properties for this account go to 'Account' and select the Logon To option and give to this account only to PC's where this service will run. If you'll have many PC's, then you may leave this setting as is.

- on the XP machine open local security policy using Administrative Tools or just type gpedit.msc

- set this user account to logon as a service and to logon as a batch job on the Windows XP machine

Let me know if you need additional help.
