WikiLeaks releases Athena, a CIA spyware for Windows

Wikileaks has published an article about Athena release. Athena is a new spyware software created by the CIA in order to target Windows machines. This spyware software is able to spy and capture data on every operating system from Windows XP to Windows 10.

Captured data can be then deleted or sent to any machine in the world such as CIAs servers. This software can also further infect your machine while your Anti-Virus protection won’t detect anything suspicious on the system.

This spyware consists of two modules called Athena and Hera. Athena can infect any OS from Windows XP to Windows 10, while Hera has been used only for latest Microsoft operating systems such as Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

It was apparently developed by Siege Technologies in cooperation with the CIA. Here is the quote from the Wikileaks web page:

“Athena” – like the related “Hera” system – provides remote beacon and loader capabilities on target computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system (from Windows XP to Windows 10). Once installed, the malware provides a beaconing capability (including configuration and task handling), the memory loading/unloading of malicious payloads for specific tasks and the delivery and retrieval of files to/from a specified directory on the target system. It allows the operator to configure settings during runtime (while the implant is on target) to customize it to an operation.
