When trying to upgrade Java, you might encounter the following error message:

Java install did not complete. Error Code: 1603.

The most probable cause of this error message is that you’re trying to update Java on the Server, but other users are logged in. To successfully update the Java installation, log off other server users.

Navigate to the task manager and log off other users from the Server in the Users tab.

During the setup, you’ll be asked to remove the old Java version and install the new one. Even though the setup went fine and the Java folder with the latest version was created, I could not locate the Java shortcuts in the Start Menu, which at first look appears as if the installation did not complete successfully.

I’ve tried to run the frmservlet extension that opened with Java before the update, but this file extension was not registered to open with Java.

To solve this error, rerun the Java setup, and the installation will be completed successfully the second time. It appears that there’s a bug either in the Java installer or with the combination of the old Java version removal.
