  1. Hey Kel, is there any benefit of swapping TaskSwitchXP (http://www.ntwind.com/software/taskswitchxp.html) for VistaSwitcher (http://www.ntwind.com/software/vistaswitcher.html) ? I know that TaskSwitchXP was open source, but it is no longer supported (or developed).

    VistaSwitcher now supports WinXP, Vista, and 7, whereas TaskSwitch supports Win2K (and support on Vista is iffy at best).

    Care to put your thoughts on this? I am interested to see what VistaSwitcher offers over TaskSwitchXP.

  2. Mainsoft ClipName v1.3 released :: http://www.mainsoft.fr/en/downloads.htm

    EDIT-- Hey Kel, I think I might've found an alternative to your MMM power menu.

    ShellExView v1.41 - Shell Extensions Manager

    and

    ShellMenuView v1.12 - Disable/enable context menu items of Explorer

    I heard that these were more lightweight, and best of all, they're actively developed :D !! (MMM Free was last updated on 2005, AFAIK, and the + version on 2008.) Let me know what you think ;) ?

  3. Hey Kel, I found a nifty tool that might be useful::

    Shell Object Editor-->

    http://www.tropictech.de/modules/PDdownloads/singlefile.php?cid=1&lid=5

    UberPack or CPL Pack? What 'cha think, Kel :D ?

    (Also, for the people looking to clear out duplicate entries in the Control Panel, this utility will do the thing ;) !! The instructions were from here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/cpicon.htm ; I just hope I didn't delete the ones that weren't duplicated (~_~)...)

    Description:

    This program is an editor for shell objects. You can create new shell objects and delete them when you don't need or want them any longer. For safety reasons, it is not possible to delete shell objects that were not created with this editor by default. You have to switch to "expert mode" to delete other shell objects.

    What is a shell object?

    The "My Documents" folder is a shell object. It is a special shell object, a shell folder. Shell folders are not real folders on your hard disk, they only refer to real folders. They are a kind of "hard links", a special type of shortcuts.

    Ok, you can use shortcuts to hard disks or you can use shortcuts to directories on your desktop to access places on your hard disk you often need to access. But you can't browse them that easy, shell folders are much easier to use.

    The screenshot shows some shell folders on a german language Windows XP system. You can browse through their subdirectories on the left side of the view, or you can doubleclick on the right side. They behave in the exact same way as the "My Documents" folder (which, as you can see, is called "Eigene Dateien" in german). With the shell object editor, you can create as many of those shell folders as you want, although we recommend only choosing the folders you use most.

    But there are more shell objects. The Internet Explorer, that resides on your desktop by default, is a shell object, too. It is not a shortcut because it has not the typical shortcut arrow. The Internet Explorer is a deleteable shell object, but you can create shell objects that are impossible to delete. This may sound like nonsense to you, but it is useful in some rare cases and such objects can be created with this editor.

  4. Heya guys!!

    First, I wanna say I love this tool-- make an optimized silent installer and an optimized addon all-in-one. Amazing and simple :thumbsup_anim: .

    -----

    EDIT::

    Apparently, the prefs.js file does have some differences, but it becomes very negligible. As it turns out, the optimizations does geared toward the specific processor build matters most. Meaning the compilation/ installation optimizations for the P4 and P3 systems give the browser an extra boost :) . (As it stands, my P4 FF build became phenomenally faster after Pigfoot\'s optmizations. Previously, IE8 was actually faster than my 3.0.7 vanilla FF (guessing the addons slowed everything down); now 3.0.7 Pigfoot\'s build runs faster by like 2-3 times (using estimate- may not actually be right [-_-]). Though, P4s are supposed to be faster than P3s anyway (>.>) ... Gotta note: Swiftfox on Ubuntu P3 builds runs nicely considering the processors age.

    Really satisfied with Processor-geared optimized builds... Why don\'t they do them often anymore? The performance rewards feels amazing :) .

    -----

    Got a little question: are some of optimizations builds (ex. pigfoots) done in the profile? Reason why I\'m asking is because I use FEBE (really great Firefox addon btw) to backup my FF add-ons/ themes/ bookmarks/ settings cross platform.

    That means I backup the entire profile and replace the previous one. Thus, I fear if any optimizations were to be made in one profile (eg. my Windows profile as compared to my Ubuntu one), it would be lost.

    Can anyone double check if profile replacement eliminates some of the optimizations done by the Firefox builds? Thanks ;) !! (I think a easy way to check would be to check is by doing a fresh install of FF, copying the profile prefs.js file, then installing the optimized builds via silent installer, and then checking out the prefs.js.) btw, I\'m using Pigfoot\'s optmized build (P3).

    Hm, I think it would be a good idea to simply compare the files via Notepad++\'s Compare plugin (or any other text editor that can compare text files). I\'ll upload my prefs.js right now (hopefully, my plugin-added-preferences won\'t be too difficult to differentiate from [-_-]).

    I currently can\'t check this myself because I am on my Ubuntu machine and am not using my Windows machine. Windows = FF Addon Maker Pigfoot\'s P3 optimizations; Ubuntu = Swiftfox 3.04pre

    I really appreciate it :) !! Thanks!! (If I find out that the prefs.js are indeed different in the various optimized builds, I will make a separeate prefs.js backup individually to preserve the optimizations geared toward different platforms/ processors.)

  5. New updates:

    HashCheck

    2009/01/13 - 2.1.5

    * [bug #4] [Localizations] Added Greek translation. (translator: "XhmikosR")

    * [bug #5] [Localizations] Changed "context menu" to "shortcut menu" in the en-US localization (this is apparently the technically correct term in Windows).

    * [bug #6] [installer] The installer will now remind the user to log off and log back on after the installation is completed if the installer determines that it is necessary (when updating an existing installation, the shell process needs to be restarted in order to get it to load the new version into memory).

    Open CMD Here

    * [bug #7] [Localizations] Changed the access key for the Greek translation.

    * [bug #18] [installer] Fixed Windows 7 installation error.

    And any luck with XPSysPad, Zenmap, or ColorCop?

    Thanks, I look forward to your new release ;) !!

  6. Hey Kel, think these two programs would be a nice addition (to either your UberPack or CPL pack)?

  7. Heya guys!!

    I would just like to post up a request for this little nifty program, Serious Samurize: http://www.samurize.com/modules/news/

    Samurize is an advanced system monitoring and desktop enhancement engine for Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista. IT professionals, overclockers, gamers and desktop modders alike use Samurize for system information, weather reports, news headlines and much much more. And best of all, Samurize is 100% free!

    Samurize's rich feature set includes:

    • an unrivalled set of built-in meters (Disk utilization, CPU usage, network traffic, system temperatures...)

    • ultimate customizing and skinning possibilities with no programming knowledge required

    • monitoring your own computer or others over a network

    • tiny memory footprint and CPU usage

    • multimonitor support

    • many usage options (desktop, taskbar and clock clients, server outputting to XML or image formats, screensaver)

    Samurize: The Only Limit Is Your Imagination.

    Here is a sample Samurize only desktop: http://lifehacker.com/5043712/roll-your-ow...-sunset-desktop

    Also, can you include several popular configuration scripts into the package so we can have a nice and nifty addition to the default package?

    I'm asking for something like the configuration files mentioned here: http://lifehacker.com/5087956/customize-yo...-enigma-desktop -- Also, check these out, since these are really nice desktops inspired by customization work: http://lifehacker.com/5101092/engima+inspi...desktop-roundup

    As for the other add-on: Rainlender: http://www.rainlendar.net/cms/index.php (nice to have in a install with Samurize.)

    Rainlendar Features

    Platform independent

    Rainlendar can be run on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. All platforms use the same file formats so all skins and scripts created for different versions will work also on all.

    Localized

    Rainlendar supports localization so you can have the user interface in your own language. Rainlendar is an Unicode application so different character sets can be used at the same time.

    Standards Compatible

    Rainlendar uses standard iCalendar format for it events and tasks to maximize the compatibility with other calendar applications. You can easily transfer the events from the calendar you are currently using to Rainlendar.

    Look'n'feel

    The appearance of the calendar can be changed with skins. The skins can be of any shape and size and they can also use scripts for additional functionality. It's also possible to combine different skins by using e.g. the calendar from one skin and event and to do list from another. The events and tasks can have different appearance depending on their category.

    Highly Customizable

    It is possible to have multiple months visible at the same time. The months can be laid out the way you want and they can even have different sizes.

    Multiple Calendars

    You can have any number of calendars show at the same time. Different calendars can show e.g. holidays, tv programs, your personal events or what ever you like.

    Import & Export

    Events and tasks can be transferred to and from other calendar applications. You can also import the data from the old version of Rainlendar.

    To do list

    In addition to normal events Rainlendar includes a separate to do list where you can store your ongoing tasks.

    Alarms

    Get notified in advance before the event is due so that you don't forget any important events. The alarm works with tasks too.

    Recurrence

    The events and tasks can be made to repeat automatically so you don't have to enter them multiple times. It's also possible to have exceptions in case the event doesn't happen on one particular day.

    Scripting

    Lua scripting language makes it possible to extend the functionality of Rainlendar.

    Backups

    Integrated backup and restore functionality makes it easy to make sure your events safe if something bad happens.

    Printing

    Print your events and tasks as a separate list or as a month view.

    Search

    If you have a lot of events and tasks you can find the one you are looking for easily with the substring search in the Manager dialog.

    Here are some nice and brief information about the programs from Lifehacker: http://lifehacker.com/5096769/five-best-de...omization-tools -- scroll/ read around ;)

    So what do you think? How about it? THANKS VERY MUCH !! :)

  10. Heya guys!!

    I wish for my XP-based machine to have the wallpaper shown here: http://bp1.blogger.com/_raDp1maFPQY/RsfbpA.../s400/XPtan.jpg

    But, even to untrained eyes, this image has some obvious imperfections (like white spots and *incorrectly* colored areas). Mostly, I think this is because of the JPEG image compression, causing the image to lose some quality.

    All I'm asking is for::

    -imperfections to be corrected (like white spots and other color errors),

    -the lines to become more defined (and the text of XP-tan's leg to be not-so-blurred, and a little more straightened please, but still conforming to her curvature), the Windows Logo on her shoulder to be not as skewed.

    **Also, I'm planning to have a "Darksided" Windows XP (with XPize Darkside + Royale Noir + etc.) --> So, can you make a couple of variations, one that keeps this bright-glistening-shine background, and another with a more midnight-stargazing-dark-blue-black-purple-ish feel?

    * Size::

    Preferably a standard desktop size, ie 15" screens (1024x768) --> I would appreciate it if the file is saved in a format in which the quality does not degrade (PNG maybe)

    * Color(s)::

    enough to correct imperfections and add a midnight feel to it ;)

    * Text::

    Correction to the "Microsoft Windows XP" text + Windows Logo

    * Pictures::

    Windows logo + Microsoft Windows XP logo for manipulation; main image here http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:/...=image&cd=1

    xptanye5.jpg

    w1024.png

    NOTE:: I've tried to correct the imperfections myself, but hell, I'm no artist ... And I by far will not know how to add a midnight feel to it ...

    xptanxf3.png

    w1024.png

    Thanks a lot guys!! I really appreciate it ;) !!

    NOTE:: I also posted a request up on MSFN: http://www.msfn.org/board/WALLPAPER-REQUES...de-t125607.html . If somebody takes it on either post, I will make proper edits to the respective thread to signal that its being worked on/ taken elsewhere.

  13. Update:

    Open Command Prompt Shell Extension new release -->2008/09/11 - 1.0.5

    * The 64-bit build is now compiled with the PSDK compiler, which makes eliminating the static linking of the CRT possible. This significantly reduces the file size of the 64-bit version (its size is now comparable to that of the 32-bit build), and being able to use the same CRT as the host shell process conveys other benefits, including a reduced memory footprint (not that anyone running a 64-bit OS would ever notice a few kilobytes).

    * The 32-bit build was version-bumped to 1.0.5 in order to keep the version numbers in sync, but no changes were made (the CRT was never statically-linked in the 32-bit build).

    Continue the great work ;) !!
