Posted March 7Mar 7 Google Chrome 137 Stable is now available for all supported platforms. The new version of Google's browser is a security and feature update.Users on unmanaged devices should receive the update automatically. Desktop users may speed up the installation by selecting Menu > Help > About Google Chrome, or by loading the address chrome://settings/help directly in the address bar.Chrome should pick up the update automatically when the page is opened. A restart is required to finish the update.Chrome 137 introduces several notable improvements across AI, security, user experience, and developer tools. One of the key highlights is the integration of Google’s Gemini Nano AI model, which enhances security by detecting tech support scams in real time. This on-device AI analyzes webpage content to identify fraud patterns. Additionally, Chrome now features AI-powered autofill predictions that make filling out forms faster and more accurate. For some users, Gemini is also available directly within Chrome, enabling AI-assisted tasks and code editing right in DevTools.Security and privacy have seen meaningful upgrades. Chrome now includes HSTS tracking prevention and Blob URL partitioning to improve how content is fetched and navigated securely. Several legacy and potentially insecure features have been removed, including the --load-extension command-line switch and SwiftShader fallback. The browser also tightens validation by disallowing spaces in non-file:// URL hosts and aligning the error type thrown during WebAuthn credential creation for better consistency.Chrome 137 adds more customization options for managed profiles, allowing admins to apply custom logos and labels. Users can now access Microsoft 365 cards on the new tab page, use shared tab groups (upcoming), and enjoy enhanced bookmark and reading list features. Chrome also expands support for system accent colors in form elements to Windows and ChromeOS and includes a new toolbar toggle for Chromecast.Developers benefit from deeper integration with Gemini in DevTools, offering features like CSS editing, performance annotations, and screenshot-based assistance. Experimental features such as Automatic Workspaces enable direct saving of DevTools changes to local files. Performance insights continue to evolve with enhanced auditing, duplicated JavaScript detection, and server timing analysis.
