Feature updates

Intune MAM Protected Downloads. The protected downloads feature for Intune MAM will now save downloaded files to the Documents > Microsoft Edge > Downloads folder in OneDrive.

Extensions monitoring in the Edge management service. The Microsoft Edge management service now allows admins to gain visibility into extensions installed across their managed users. From the extensions monitoring page, admins can see which extensions have been installed as well as manage user requests for blocked extensions. Validate Edge builds early with enterprise preview. Enterprise preview provides a simpler way for admins to flight pre-release Edge builds to their users. To reduce friction and bolster usage, users will receive pre-release builds directly inside of their Stable Edge application. Admins can allow users to easily opt-out of the preview experience, using built-in rollback to switch between their pre-release and stable channels with ease. Microsoft 365 admin center users can configure the feature, view their flighting population, and receive personalized recommendations all in one place. Announcements

• Microsoft Translator update. On Microsoft Edge versions earlier than 136, translation will stop working after July 30, 2026. Users can update their browser by going to Settings and more (...) > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge; install the update and restart when prompted. Admins should update managed devices to the latest version of Microsoft Edge.

• Drop is being retired. We're simplifying Microsoft Edge. Drop will be retired in the near future. Files shared are saved in OneDrive. Text notes need to be downloaded separately.

Feature Updates

• Clipboard suggestions in the address bar. Microsoft Edge can suggest content based on text and links copied to the clipboard directly in the address bar dropdown. Admins can control availability of this feature using the AddressBarClipboardSuggestEnabled policy.

• Passkey Sync for Enterprise Users. Microsoft Edge is introducing support for passkey synchronization for enterprise users, enabling secure, passwordless authentication across devices. Passkeys created in Edge can now be synced seamlessly, improving sign-in experience while maintaining strong security standards. Admins can control availability to this feature using the PasswordManagerPasskeysEnabled policy.

• Sidebar app list is retired for enterprise users. We're simplifying Microsoft Edge. The sidebar app list is retired for enterprise users. New apps can no longer be added to the sidebar, and apps currently pinned in the app tower are removed. Sidebar app policies are no longer supported, and any configured sidebar app policies are no longer applied. • Microsoft Edge supported Operating Systems for macOS. Microsoft Edge version 151 or later requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.

Announcements

• Deprecating the unload event. Microsoft Edge is changing the default behavior of the web platform unload event. As the rollout progresses, pages will no longer run unload event handlers unless the site explicitly permits them.

  • In Edge 152 and 153, unload handlers will stop firing by default for 60% of page loads unless the site explicitly enables them through Permissions Policy.

  • In Edge 154, the rollout will increase to 80% of page loads.

  • In Edge 155, the rollout will reach 100% of page loads.

  The unload event is not a dependable way to save data, perform cleanup, or report the end of a session. Browsers and operating systems can suspend or terminate pages without firing it, and this can prevent pages from using the back/forward cache, which may make back and forward navigation slower.

  Web developers should migrate to lifecycle events and APIs designed for these scenarios. The long-term direction of the web platform is to remove support for unload.

• Retiring Windows Information Protection (WIP) and Microsoft Defender Application Guard (MDAG) in Microsoft Edge. The WIP and MDAG code paths are being retired from Microsoft Edge, aligning Edge with the Windows platform. Windows deprecated both technologies and removed them in Windows 11, version 24H2.

  Only tenants that configured WIP or MDAG in Microsoft Edge are impacted by this change. Both features are off by default and require an admin to turn them on, so tenants that never enabled them are not affected. In practice this is a small, Windows 10 population. Both features were committed for Windows 10 only, and both are already unavailable on Windows 11, version 24H2.

  For organizations using WIP, use Microsoft Purview Information Protection, Microsoft Purview endpoint DLP, and Data Loss Prevention and also Intune app protection policies for data protections instead of WIP.

  For organizations using MDAG, use the built-in Microsoft Edge for Business security capabilities and Microsoft Edge natively supports hardware isolation instead. Also further, Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, Enhanced Security Mode, Data Loss Prevention, and website typo protection is available.

  The change rolls out through the normal Microsoft Edge release channels, and will reach general availability with Microsoft Edge Stable 154 around September 24, 2026.

Feature Updates

• Improved profile setup in the first run experience. Microsoft Edge now includes a close (X) button in the upper-right corner of the new profile setup during the first run experience. When setup is canceled, Microsoft Edge automatically removes the incomplete profile to prevent unused profiles from being retained.

• Sign in to Edge with a Google account. Users can now sign in to Microsoft Edge using a Google account in addition to a Microsoft account from the profile menu and Edge sign-in screen. The feature is available on Windows and macOS devices. Admins can control availability using the NonMicrosoftAccountSignInEnabled policy.

• Enhanced Key Icon with Credential Details, Copy Actions, and Notes. The key icon in Microsoft Edge's address bar now lets users open a detailed panel for any saved credential. From there, users can copy a username, reveal and copy a password, and add personal notes to each login. Users can keep security questions, account purposes, or recovery details with credentials without opening Settings or the full password manager.
