Mozilla has published the final builds of the Firefox 154 open-source web browser today, ahead of its official unveiling on August 18th, 2026, so it’s time to take a look at the new features and improvements.

Highlights of Firefox 154 include a new “Manage AI” quick action in the address bar that makes it easier to open the AI section of Settings, support for clearing and updating cached favicons when performing a hard reload on a web page, and the ability to highlight selected text in PDFs like in normal web pages.

Firefox 154 also adds support for setting exceptions for sites that have their cookies and site data cleared on shutdown without exempting the site from tracking protection and other cookie restrictions, and extends Firefox’s Local Network Access protections to WebSocket connections.

On top of that, it improves the Vertical Tabs layout in full-screen mode so that the sidebar is now hidden along with the toolbars, which will reappear when moving the cursor to the edge of the screen, and improves the new Smart Window feature to organize opened tabs into groups for you by suggesting groupings of related tabs and naming each one.

Among other changes, Firefox View was moved out of the toolbar by default for new profiles and profiles where it hasn’t been used recently, and Firefox now displays PDF documents in the print preview with the right scale when using the “Fit to Page Width” option.

The full-page Translations feature has been updated as well in this release to translate iframe content and run language identification on all page loads, which should result in an improved translation experience.

For Android users, Firefox 154 adds support for customizing the file name and download location or defining a custom download location for downloaded files, improves the reliability of automatic translations for those with multiple languages selected in system settings, and updates the Bookmarks Search to show up to 75 results per query, making it easier to find your bookmarks without refining your search.

For macOS users, Firefox 154 makes video seeking significantly faster and scrubbing and jumping to a point in a video much more responsive, adds support for using the local backup profile on your macOS device to easily restore between Windows, macOS, and Linux systems, and fixes an issue where closing a browser window could leave behind an invisible window that continued to capture mouse clicks over the area where it used to be.

For Windows users, Firefox 154 introduces the ability to change the default browser icon in Settings, improves full-screen Picture-in-Picture support, adds support for NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and no longer requires minimizing or maximizing the Firefox window after launch to allow the Windows taskbar to show when it’s set to auto-hide.

For web developers, Firefox 154 makes the time picker user interface more accessible and intuitive, supports the sibling-index() and sibling-count() CSS functions, and supports the Iterator.prototype.join method that allows joining an iterator into a string.

Moreover, it adds support for the No-Vary-Search HTTP response header for the HTTP disk cache, support for new Iterator.prototype.chunks and Iterator.prototype.windows methods, and support for the text-box-trim and text-box-edge CSS properties, alongside the associated text-box shorthand.

On top of that, Firefox 154 updates JSON Viewer, which now shows a breadcrumb path at the bottom for the selected entry, and adds support for Iterator.prototype.includes(), which lets web developers check whether an iterator contains a given value without first converting it to an array.
