  1. I have been using the x64 version of win7 as my main OS, and i have to say, its the best MS beta OS i ever used. Rock solid and stable, and more importantly runs very fast and smooth, with hardly any incompatibility problems. I really started to like the aero shake feature, (i found it annoying first..lol) and the superbar just makes life so easy as well. Overall its the best ms OS i have used, and cant wait for the rtm version.

  2. N1K, your right, installing windows 7 on vmware, does give few problems as you mentioned above. But when you install it on a real machine, with all your proper upto date drivers, the story is completely different. WMP works like a charm (better than WMP11), and yes mp3's had a major issue, but that has been fixed now by a new windows 7 update available to fix that particular mp3 issue.

I installed windows 7 x86 last few weeks ago, and i was not very impressed with overall perfomance, because i did not install upto date drivers for my hardware, and also x86 was not able to use all my ram.

I recently installed windows 7 x64, and i was very impressed, as it was able to use all my 8gb ram. The overall performance is great after i installed all upto date drivers for my hardware.

Am just hoping MS dont mess things up by at the last minute by adding junks or anything. Overall windows 7 x64 ROCKS!

  3. Thats the only reason i really wanted to install win7 as my main OS (looking at those screenshots). But yeh, give it a try, its better than vista, but not by much. I will wait for the rtm version, and if MS manages to fix all these bugs and improve stability, then i might consider upgrading, but atm windows 7 looks like the future vista sp3 for me...lol

  4. For me its just a second edition of vista. Bugs at this stage is no surprise for win7 beta 7000. All my drivers worked fine. Used it for just over a week now, as my main OS. Its slightly better than vista i have to say, but overall its not worth upgrading (atleast for me). I voted "BAD"

  5. There something wrong with the inf file. It wont install after the prompt. Was testing the addon on vmware, and right clicked on the inf file and chose "install" to test, but i guess there are typo mistake or maybe some info missing from inf file. (btw i did place idm.cab in a new folder with name "i386"

    Plz check the inf file.

    thanks

  6. VMware Workstation 6.5.1 Release Notes :

    Resolved Issues

The following issues were fixed in this release of Workstation:

    * Although VMware does not support replaying recordings of virtual machine execution that you created with previous versions of Workstation, it is now possible to do so. When you attempt to play a recording created with Workstation 6.5.0 (release version), a Replay Compatibility dialog box appears, prompting you to choose from the following options:

o Replay in Test Mode - Plays the recording. If you choose this option, the Replay Compatibility dialog box will also appear again the next time you attempt to play the recording.

o Overwrite Version - Plays the recording as in test mode but acts like a "Don't display this message again" check box. If you choose this option, the Replay Compatibility dialog box will not appear the next time you attempt to play this recording.

o Go Live - Acts like a Cancel button and cancels playing the recording.

    * On Windows XP guests, if you have the version control system CVSNT installed, VMware Tools might crash. If this happens, you must uninstall either CVSNT or VMware Tools. Without VMware Tools installed, you cannot use such features as Unity mode and cut-copy-paste and drag-and-drop of text and files between the virtual machine and the host computer. (Bug 320159)

    * If you configure a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 virtual machine to automatically update VMware Tools, the guest might freeze during the automatic update process. (Bug 323969)

    * If you have the Integrated Virtual Debugger for Visual Studio installed, Visual Studio sometimes crashes when you open a project. (Bug 333862)

    OFFTOPIC

With 1GB ram, superfetch does not work at its best, instead it sux all your available memory, and slows down the system or vm.

IMO use superfetch with systems with 2gb ram and above. With 1gh ram, its a system killer!

  7. Rick,

When I start a new Virtual Machine with VMWare, and then add my iso to the "installer disc image file (ISO)":

    Then i get this notice:

    Windows XP Professional Detected.

This operating system will use Easy Install.

Is there a way to turn of the Easy Install? Because when VMWare uses that it doesnt use my winnt.sif..

    Thanks in advance.

When your creating a new virtual machine, use option "I will install the operating system later" this way, vmware will not use "easy Install"

  9. reaper do you can create only with (uniextract to subdir) on right click mouse

    Setup.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /MERGETASKS="!associate\here,!associate\files"

Adding this to silent switch, installs it with all default settings, except it does not add all context menu's, but ONLY "uniextract to subdir"

    MERGETASKS="!associate\here,!associate\files"

Am going to be posting a switchless installer of this soon, with only "uniextract to subdir" in switchless installer section.

    EDIT:

Switchless installer can be found below. With only "uniextract to subdir"

  10. nice work! i create updated version with "no pop-ups" and everything works great :P

Glad to know its working fine, :D

Maybe you should upload your version you made with "no pop-ups" as i forgot to add this with my one (ask for ricks permission first before you upload in his thread), and hopefully rick will put this one as his main VMWare lite addon builder.
