  1. Lego,

I'm suffering from a W7 x64 without .Net 3.5. I cannot install it from the standalone package, since this should be done via the Turn Windows features On/Off, which is blank in my case. Any chance that the date-determination feature you use could optionally be derived from .Net 4.0 (which I could install stand-alone)? Currently the Update catalog keeps offering the same updates again and again....

  2. Well, I can bypass the proxy altogether (by just disabling automatic configuration in LAN Settings) and then everything works without any problems. Adding the hotfix site as an exception while proxy is on does not work however.

It would be a bit cumbersome to specifically disable the proxy to get my updates... I'm almost sure I would forget to re-enable it

  3. Hi Lego,

Sorry for my late reply, but I was out for the weekend (not knock-out though...). I tried the new version and I still do not get updates. The time-out message pops up much faster though and no follow-up message 'Access denied'. After the time-out the dropdown box for Type is cleared.

    Edit:

After a few tries I now got a connection. Seems to be unpredicatable though, I do not see what the trigger is. And most times I get the time-out, or even a message that both servers seem to be off-line when starting the Update catalog.

  4. No, when the ini-file is rewritten using v26, the trailing backslash in the path is not there and everything works OK. But in the ini file made by an older version there is a trailing backslash which is not handled well by v26, causing the problems I described above. Seems like a simple check, just handling the backslash when it is found in the path.

  5. Hi,

I've been trying to use the update catalog feature for a few versions already but it gave me every time the message http://chris123nt.com/.. The operation timed out. After closing this dialog a new dialog appeared: Access denied: You can't close this whilst Win Toolkit is scanning, please wait! I saw in some other thread that the servers of McRip and Solor would be down. I checked using an ordinary webbrowser and both appeared to be up! I finally solved the 'connection' problem by resetting the Update Catalog Download folder in Win Toolkit Options (defining the same path as before!). So it seems that somewhere during development the path (from ini?) has become unreadable and messed up the update process? Further investigation: in the old settings.txt the path has a trailing backslash, where this is not the case in the newest version.

At least there is a quick workaround, but could you take a quick glance into this Lego?

  6. Indeed very nLite/vLite and very attractive. I suppose also here the normal paradigm for tree nodes is planned? Like empty nodes when nothing is selected, grey node when partial selection is done etc.

Edit: Rica's idea for downsizing of some sections is good. Otherwise we will still suffer from lack of overview....

  7. No, more like when opening the AIO tool and going to the tweaks tab, it would have a set of subtabs, each with a category like Startup/Shutdown which are now on one page in sections. Just to reduce the need for scrolling up and down (which I find annoying sometimes). I realize this is not easy for user-filled tabs like Drivers / Wallpapers etc, because the content can vary heavily and there may not be a distinct feature to easily separate into subtabs. But for tabs with more or less fixed content, like tweaks and component removal, it might give a tidier look.

Your idea of Basic and Advanced can also be of use. Another thought is even to be able to hide tabs that you're not using; e.g. I never use Themes, Gadgets, Wallpapers, so I'd rather not see them. You've already implemented such feature in W7T Main form. I'm not sure if this can be done for individual tabs?

    Regards, Eric666

  8. Thinking about it a bit more, I would also suggest to expand use of (sub)tabs for other Main tabs in AIO-tool (and maybe other tools too?). It would give a cleaner look for 'busy' pages, like the Component Removal and maybe Services. The other main tabs are more dynamic i.e. to be filled by the user for his/her particular needs. E.g. some people integrate tons of drivers, others use none. Same goes for Solor's updates, those are a bit hard to separate into tabs, unless the category (source folder on server) is also taken into account

    Regards, Eric666

  9. I still think the collection of tweaks is very useful, otherwise one has to roam the internet for quite some time to gather from scattered sources.

Presentation could be done in multiple tabs in stead of one page with sections. The section subdivision itself seems alright, IMO. The very last tab could contain an option to import (and maybe validate) someone's own registry items.

  10. Well, to start with minors:

    Main form:

Tooltip for AIO: ...this tool let's you... (should be: lets you)

Tooltip for AIO: line about drivers contains typo (says dirvers)

Tooltip for AIO: line about theme packs has typo for favourites

Tooltip for AIO: line about language packs: is -> in

Tooltip for AIO: line about wallpapers: you -> your

Tooltip for WIM Manager: export imagex (should be images?)

Tooltip for CAB retriever: lot's -> lots; let's -> lets

    Tooltip for W7T Guide: your -> you're

    Options -> Main tab

Tooltip for Check images: corrupted is misspelled

    WIM Manager:

Tooltip for Browse for WIM: Windows is misspelled

    Regards, EricB

PS is it possible to make a dump of all tooltip text for review? Makes life much easier

  11. Hi Lego,

Minor typo in Solor updates function: when opening the form, the dropdown displays "Please select a catagory..." This should be category.

    Regards, Eric666

PS Maybe it is wise to open again a "Small things" thread for finalizing the RC?
