  1. What's Changed in v5.3.6.4:

    - Reverted PNP detection code back to pre-v5.3.6.0.

    - Modified code to search for icon theme if one hasn't been selected.

    - Redetect Drive Types code modified to relaunch GUI after redetection.

    - All floppy grinds seem to be gone.

    - Removable devices are detected as removable instead of floppy drives.

    - Component Selection page has been removed from install process.

NOTE: If you have used any of the v5.3.6.x series, please redetect the drive types (GUI -> Program menu -> Redetect All Drive Types). This should correct any issues that these versions may have caused.

Also, since I've upgraded AutoIt to the latest stable version, I will be sticking with it from now on.

OTHER NOTES: It seems that my build script messed up something royally for the update functionality, as v5.3.6.4 wasn't released until just now. It shouldn't have gotten out. If you tried to use the update functionality and download the "update", I would suggest downloading the latest SFX, as it is "final" for v5.3.6.4. I apologize for any inconvenience that this caused.

  2. Ok don't know if it's pack-rleated.. but I end up each time with an IE/WMP-less XP lately...

GUI or batch same result btw

Which add-on(s) are you using to generate your XP source? I need to know if I'm going to try to figure out what's going on with the GUI. (Maybe I can figure out what's going on with the batch, too!)

  3. What's Changed in v5.3.6.0:

    - Updated AutoIt to latest stable release (again... urgh!)

    - Updated Russian language file, courtsey of courtesy of Ruslan A. Kuzmenkov.

    - Rewrote PNP detection for mass-storage drives.

    - Removed code dealing with virtual drive detection.

    - Modified code to help 32-bit Explorer running on 64-bit OS show icons properly.

    - Updated links in About menu to point to proper URLs.

    - Modified code so that message boxes are linked to GUI.

    What's Changed in v5.3.6.1:

    - Sorted Drive list on the Drives tab in GUI.

    - Restored PNP detection code with minor modification.

    - Added check to make sure drive is ready before creating tray icon.

    - Removed ability to create tray icon for floppy drives.

    What's Changed in v5.3.6.2:

    - Code for ComSel modified so that Component array is populated.

    What's Changed in v5.3.6.3:

    - Finally eliminated floppy drive grind.

    - Fixed a problem with the PNP array when inserting new hardware.

  4. im willing to try a french version. each lang would need a different res file for it(if multilang come available),as hexing would be a pain .But for english i dont see any problems using a hex instead fo a res.
    Okay, sounds good.
also reshacker may work, i think we would simply need to have to save the message table to a text file or rc and the command line would work, adding it via the gui dosent work.
Tried it a few posts back. Didn't work.
  5. Okay, I got a situation here and I'm letting y'all know what it is.

    1) I found some information about that "free" host that I found. It has been open only 2 months and I really don't feel like putting a lot of time in uploading to a host that may disappear in another few months. I've also checked out other "free" hosting companies and haven't found anything that would satisfactorally support this project.

So, I guess it is either a non-free host or no change.... I have found a paid hosting server for around $40/year and $20/year for the domain name, with the best deal is for a 3-year deal for around $85. Thing is, I don't have the money for it, nor do I have the time to investigate hosting, which leads me to #2.

    2) At my job, the amount of work to do has picked quite a bit. I'm currently working 10 to 11 hour shifts in this humid heat of Tennessee and work is planning 6 to 7 day workweeks. I will be unable to update the GUI or the website for a while. Until the Nissan model launch has been completed and work dies back down to previous levels, there probably won't be any changes in either the GUI or website. It may be a month or two before things slow down, so I'm letting you know. (I load vechicles onto railcars for a living, if anybodys interested...)

    3) The translation code hasn't been worked on for a while. The basic code works, but issues with many of the resources are holding the code back from being included.

    4) Splitting the resources into a Master set and Theme-specific set began, but I'm not sure if many problems that I'm running into are worth resolving in order to make things easier to update. I mean, the theme files are about the same size as the whole thing, so is it really worth doing? I just don't know....

So that's what is happening.... Thought I'd let y'all know.

  6. As long as the 'repatcher' doesn't require it, I say go for it. Most of us have .NET installed anyway.

The smss.exe file is only needed during install. IIRC, it doesn't get copied to the system.

Well, if I replace ResHacker with Anolis, then the GUI Repatcher component will require .NET as well because Anolis requires .NET in order to do it's thing....

EDIT: There is one small issue with patching SMSS.EXE and it involves non-English languages. I know how "Media Center" is spelled in English, but doing so with other languages would an impossible challenge unless there is a string with that phrase that could simply be copied. I'm not talking about "If there is a Media Center component, do this" string, I'm talking about the language equlivant of that string....

EDIT2: I guess that I could add the Anolis program to the package without removing ResHacker....

  7. the picture says it all

Huh.... well, that's something that I can't fix. I suspect it's something with the ShortURL.com servers.... I agree with you when you said you hope the new host fixes this problem.

Well, the xptsp.filetap.com address forwards to http://home.comcast.net/~douglas.orend. Hopefully this helps you.

EDIT: I was talking to FixIt and he said that he had to disable an entry in his host file in %WinDir%\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts in order to get the counter working on the old website. You may have to do something similar. Also, there are registry entries in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains branch that you may have to disable. Hope this helps....

  8. well that one high Price

Can't you only extract the Message table using ResHacker

into Rc and modify it using notepad then use only rc to get it back

i think you can use the Rc only if it's one File and it's one already

all strings are in one file

Yeah, just think.... that's a PER-LICENSE price! Unrealistic... Regarding the RC file, I extracted just the Message table and made the modifications. Reshacker won't modify the SMSS.EXE file using the RC file and I can't get GoRC to assemble a RES file for it.... what to do, what to do....

LOL, it's still wrong. See attached. I was getting approx 100-150kb/s at the time (had other downloads going) but look at the download speed. :)

    post-3472-124888190462_thumb.png

LOL! Wow, almost 10mb/sec! Yup, it's definitely still wrong! I'll try to fix it again.... I'm sorry.

  9. Orbit30 managed to do it, screenshot here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=113048&view=findpost&p=747313

He used ResTuner or ResEditor (Not ResHacker)

ResTuner is $39.99 for a license, ResEditor command-line version is $199.99... argh!

Also, it appears the XPtsp servers are offline. I can't download any theme/resource packs from within GUI.

Are you changing the packs? Or did you change the file names/locations?

The script responsable for updating the version info file broken the file... I fixed the issue and it is available again.
  10. Mr_Smartepants: I tried using reshacker like you stated and came up with the same results.... I even tried extracting using reshacker, then compiling a RES file with GoRC. That promptly failed... So, I guess I can't make that change in the SMSS.EXE file unless we can find a FREE alternate resource hacker program.

I will have the new Green bootscreen for the green theme uploaded shortly.

DaRk MaDnEsS: Any resource hacker clone program proposed must (1) be free, (2) capable of running from the command-line without a GUI, and (3) ideally must be compatible with Reshacker command-line. Anolis is the closest thing to these mandates, but it can't be run from the command-line at this time, so it can not be considered at this time for use within this project.

  11. Any update to this?

Also, can I request a mod to i386\system32\smss.exe to patch for "Media Center Edition" instead of "Professional" when %source%\CMPNENTS\MEDIACTR\I386\MEDIACTR.CAB is detected?

This is for the blue txtsetup phase to setup partitions etc.

All my attempts to mod smss.exe have failed.

    This was originally requested here.

I'm sorry, I've been busy doing many non-"XPtsp-related" stuff at home. I will look into the Green bootscreen issue when I get home today. (It's 4:21am here).

As for the SMSS.EXE patch, it should be possible, however, you stated all your attempts to mod SMSS.EXE have failed. How have you attempted to mod smss.exe? With reshacker? Also, did you correct the PE checksum before compression and/or inclusion in the source? If not, that's probably why the patching failed....

  12. Sorry, I've been away from the forum for a few days. I noticed a number of posts were in the XPtsp Batch thread that had no relation to that topic, so I moved those posts to this thread since this is a non-theme specific thread for discussion. In the future, please post in the proper thread! It helps everybody to do so! Thanks!

If there is a need for another thread, please let me or Bober or Fixit know via PM and we will discuss the need there.
