  1. Is it possible to disable/remove the Vista Executable context menu entries or would that break something?
  2. I've noticed this about the slide show gadget as well although I don't understand the high mem usage part. I thought for some reason that these images are being cached in IE's temporary files cache folder. Maybe not though.
  3. Are there any reported problems with the Sidebar after updating to IE8?
  4. If the mem usage bothers you that much, do a search for a little app called CleanMem and give that a try, installer or portable.
  5. I'm having problems with sidebar after the latest Window Updates. I can manage to get the clock in the sidebar but if I click the options button I get the warning of bad gadgets, find it remove it etc.. but gadget want restart. I receive the same warning again. I've done the control panel repair/reregister with no luck. Any ideas? I am using Sidebar Styler and repaired it as well but still no joy. Edit: It appears to be the update for IE7. Uninstalling it fixes sidebar. Maybe it was a bad install and I will try again. Edit2: No such luck. Something in the latest IE7 update hinders the sidebar from working properly
  6. According to rick, No hover. Look a few posts above this one.
  7. Thanks, I'll leave it the way it is now. I was just curious about the hover..
  8. Is there a way to make the sidebar background have the hover effect like on Vista? My wife and girls all use Vista with sidebar on their laptops so I could get the sidebar.exe from one of them. I've tried the sidebar styler which I thought would help but it appears that all it affects is one background image which I think is the None - docked on right image. If I can use a sidebar.exe from one of my family members to make it work, then what would be the steps for doing so? Maybe patch and run with vista exe... then replace the sidebar.exe I have now?
  9. Don't know if this bug(tooltip) has been fixed with SP3 or not but I haven't experienced tooltips behind taskbar after installing SP3. Can anyone confirm whether or not SP3 fixed this issue?
  10. Is there any way to change the 2px transparent line that is below the menulist inside of the Gadget Gallery? I thought that it might be specific to my desktop theme but just now noticed the screenshot above is running native theme where it appears also.
  11. Update went smooth and Thanks. One question, the uninstaller seems to only remove the item from the gadgets screen if the gadgets are in the ProgramFiles gadgets or Shared gadgets folder without deleting them, is that normal? I did notice that if they(gadgets) are in the documents and settings... windows sidebar folder that the uninstaller will delete it from that folder. I think the latter folder is where the gadget installer installs the gadgets. I'm happy either way but am just curious if the uninstaller is suppose to delete the gadget from the ProgramFiles/gadgets or ProgramFiles/Shared gadgets folder.
  12. I think for now this is normal. Sidebar will crash when selecting uninstall of gadgets. There is a .dll file you can use to fix this but it will do away with the task tray icon. The .dll does work as far as stopping the sidebar crash when uninstalling gadgets.
  13. Now I'm confused. Right now I have both hotfixes installed. Which one do I need? I'm assuming the one(KB918997) that I mentioned in my last post considering I had the other installed(KB940541) and the wireless gadgets did not work with it. The hotfix(KB940541) did place wlanapi.dll in system32 I think since it(wlanapi.dll) is dated with the same date as the hotfix(KB940541) installation. WinXPSP2
  14. Well I didn't give up after all, lol. I now have wireless gadgets working. It seems that I missed this hot fix "KB918997"
  15. None of the wireless gadgets work for me either. I pretty much just gave up on it
  16. Yea, I've tried and am using quite a few of the goodies offered here and like them very much especially that sidebar thingy. I use app blocking through firewall which blocked all but this so it was kinda easy to figure which it was. I still can't believe MS has not fixed this tooltip problem. For me it rarely happens but is always a result of when the taskbar is selected to be on top of other windows which is also a semi problem for me when using the visual tooltip app. If my mouse is over the taskbar open program the visual tooltip shows and works prefectly but if I have to use the right click context menu the visual tooltip disappears as it should leaving the context menu cut off at the bottom due to the fact that taskbar is selected to be on top of other windows. On a side note, Rick thanks for all the cool factor AddOns. I've really enjoyed trying these out in the past week. Also what, whether it be here or elsewhere, would be the best option for achieving the Vista look for XP? I've seen some(quite a few) of your screenshots and like the look of it. Any tips/pointers would be appreciated. Thanks
  17. I used the website link for download and tried it. It works fine but for me it causes a dark semi transparent shadow to appear over the Windows Sidebar which will appear on alternating clicks of any gadget within the sidebar. In other words if the shadow is not present on the sidebar and I click a gadgets button then the shadow overlays the right half of the sidebar causing the button of the gadget to not function. The only way the button will function when the shadows present is if I double click it real fast.
  18. I didn't copy to there and it works for me. The instructions were "(Exit Sidebar and Copy to Windows Sidebar Folder)" and that's where I copied it to. The drawback is that you lose the Windows Sidebar tasktray icon.
  19. I think they're saying that it's fixed but has been temporarily broken with the latest sidebar build. If I'm wrong then yea, I want to know how also.
  20. Yea I know the locations or location for me since I moved all to one location. Thanks for the info on uninstall of gadgets. I guess I missed some info whilst searching here. After reading this click link I was under the impression that it had the ability to uninstall. What's different in the version they are using(it works) as opposed to what's available now(crashes sidebar).
  21. So right clicking gadget and selecting uninstall > crash sidebar is what it does for everyone? I don't have a problem with manually deleting them and have done so with no problems, I'm just wanting to know if the crashing is normal behavior for right now since I read a reply where someone I think mentioned that the uninstall was fixed. Also do the installed gadgets go to the gadget or shared gadget folder or do they go to a folder in users app data...? I've found them in all three locations but the latter may have been left over from my quest to find the sidebar that I liked the best. I think I tried two others before settling on this one which I think is without a doubt the best of the 3.
  22. I hope I'm posting in the right place(this forum has more to offer members than what I'm used to)lol. OK, I want to make sure I've installed this sidebar thingy correct. I used the dl link from first page for Win XPSP2, installed the alky, wireless lan hotfix, gadget installer and all is working very, very well. My compliments to the devs on such a great addon for XP. The problem I'm having is when I'm in the gadget window and right click, select uninstall my sidebar crashes. I've searched and found that this is normal but then I found another post that said it was fixed. I've done the repair in Add/Remove just in case something went wrong during install. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks
