Mozilla published today the final version of the Firefox 127 web browser for download as a major release that introduces various new features and enhancements.

Highlights of Firefox 127 include an updated screenshots feature that now lets you take screenshots of various :about: pages, as well as of file certain types like SVG, XML, and others, along with improved performance of capturing of large screenshots and improved accessibility through new keyboard shortcuts, theme compatibility, and High Contrast Mode (HCM) support.

Firefox 127 also adds a new “Close duplicate tabs” option in the “List all tabs” tab bar widget, as well as on the tab context menu to help you more easily close duplicate tabs. It also adds support for resolving HTTPS DNS records with the operating system’s DNS resolver on Linux, Android 10 and later, and Windows 11.

“We completed work to optimize and enable DNS prefetching for HTTPS documents via the rel=”dns-prefetch” link hint. This standard allows web developers to specify domain names for important assets that should be resolved preemptively,” said Mozilla.

In an attempt to further reduce user fingerprinting information and boost website compatibility, Firefox 127 introduces the ability to report 32-bit x86 CPU architectures as x86_64 (64-bit) in Firefox’s User-Agent string on Linux systems, as well as on the navigator.platform and navigator.oscpu Web APIs.

For web developers, this release adds support for the new Set JavaScript methods for creating unions and intersections of two sets, and enables the navigator.clipboard.read()/write() function, which implements a paste context menu for users to confirm when attempting to read clipboard content that isn’t originated from a same-origin page.

For macOS users, Firefox 127 enables tab navigation for links and other focusable elements by default rather than following macOS’ “Keyboard navigation” setting, while Windows users received the ability to set Firefox to launch automatically when they start or restart their computers for more efficient browser-centric digital routines.
