i'm just wondering are they automatically saved? b/c my sent items folder is empty, but i dont ever remember changing anything to not save them. i tried looking to see if there was an option to have them saved but i couldn't find one. can someone point me in the right direction?

They're not saved automatically. You have to check the "Add a copy of this message to my sent items folder" option which can be found under the message and attachments window.
