Hi mooms, Thank you for the warm welcome, I really appreciate it. Before posting anything in the WPI section, I wanted to ask for your approval. I’ve been working on a small modular post-install project inspired by WPI, adapted for modern Windows 10/11 workflows. My intention is not to replace WPI or promote aggressively, but simply to share it respectfully and possibly maintain a small development log for members who might be interested in a modern approach. For reference, the project is currently hosted on SourceForge: https://sourceforge.net/projects/postinstallwizzard-piw/ Would it be acceptable to create a topic in the WPI section for that purpose? Hello everyone, I just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I’m from Canada and I’ve been experimenting with Windows customization and post-install automation for a while now. I’ve always been interested in tools like WPI and the whole workflow around building and deploying customized Windows systems. I’m not a professional developer, just someone who enjoys learning and building small tools to improve my own workflow. I’m currently exploring modular post-install approaches for Windows 10 and 11, and I’m here mainly to learn from more experienced members and understand best practices. Below is an illustration of how the Notepad++ update mechanism was previously hijacked: With security enhancements introduced in v8.8.9 & v8.9.2 (this version), this vulnerability is now fully addressed: As shown in the diagram above, 2 independent signature & certificate vérifications are now performed: Verification of the signed XML returned by notepad-plus-plus.org - implemented in this release (v8.9.2). Verification of the signed installer downloaded from github.com already implemented in v8.8.9. This “double lock” design makes the Notepad++ update process robust and effectively unexploitable. In addition to this major hardening, WinGUp (the auto-updater) has been also reinforced: Removed the libcurl.dll dependency to eliminate DLL side-loading risk. Removed 2 unsecured cURL SSL options: CURLSSLOPT_ALLOW_BEAST & CURLSSLOPT_NO_REVOKE. Restricted plugin management execution to program signed with the same certificate as WinGUp (i.e. only signed Notepad++). Of course, it’s always possible to exclude the auto-updater during the UI installation, or to deploy the MSI package using the following command: msiexec /i npp.8.9.2.Installer.x64.msi NOUPDATER=1

Notepad++ v8.9.1 release2026-01-26 Several regressions were fixed in release 8.9.1: playback of macros that dulicated EOL, no matches found when pasting from Excel into the Find whatfield, and a regression in the customized context menu where the separator (id=“0”) escapes FolderName submenu. A long-standing bug was also fixed in this version: a single undo reverted multiple changes after macro execution. In addition to the fixed issues mentioned above, this release includes various bug-fixes & a few additional enhancements.
