  1. Got mine from way back in the day when I was chatting and role playing. Basically a persona that I can change into anything I'd like.
  2. This is a nice theme. I also like the VistaCG.
  3. Looks awesome, but they have that stupid Mac kid in it. :\
  4. Clear out your cookies, then log in and check Remember Me.
  5. There's a spam bot protection plugin with 2.2.0 which is now final. The universal mod installer helps too.
  6. I used to use Works, now I'm using Open Office and it works great. Though I am applying for the free Office 2007 Pro stuff
  7. I gotta stop reading posts when I'm tired.
  8. Uh, NOD32 isn't by Microsoft... Source Avast is extremely lightweight and works efficiently.
  9. Anti-Virus: Avast Firewall: Comodo Firewall Anti-Spyware: SpywareBlaster, Ad-Aware, Spybot, AVG-AS
  10. You'd be better off removing it... permanently. Give them something like Avast. Need a free firewall? Try Comodo Firewall.
  11. Ew Panda, even worse, Norton. I've seen Panda slow down computers nearly as bad as what Norton does to them.
  12. Gee, just a little biased in that article. I hate when Mac/*nix fans write that crap.
  13. Maybe try a style where you have your own topic and the first post is an index of sorts. Then each post thereafter has it's own subcatagory. Performance Tweaks for example. It really looks good when you get it done.
  14. Figured giving you a heads-up would be nicer than a mod getting after you.
  15. Can you calm down on the overly spammy (and extremely old, outdated and even some bad) "information"/posts please?
  16. You're certainly hostile when people try to help you out. Such is life. nLite shouldn't touch services either, it's just promoting a crippled Windows install.
  17. There's your issue. OEM Dell version. So it's loaded down with crap. Uninstall it after you do a restore and then see what Windows XP Pro with SP2 is really supposed to be like. XP Home doesn't have quite the extensive features that XP Pro has. Dell OEM alone is bad enough, they clog down the system with needless junk. I'm offering to help you with this experiment; but you need to be open and accepting to change and listen to reason.
  18. Does not mean that you have tried it recently, especially with this experiment in mind. But like I said, your loss.
  19. Ok, if you're not willing to try it. Shame too, it's so easy. Revert services to defaults, set pagefile to System Managed, ensure prefetch is set to boot and application launch. Oh well, your loss.
  20. I am a self-taught person. From the time I got my first computer to even now. Here's a study you can try. Re-enable all of your services to the proper defaults. Run a ProcessIdleTasks* to rebuild your prefetch (or wait for that happen automatically every three days) and you'll be surprised how your system will perform better with everything as factory defaults. I'm speaking from experience, I've tried it with tweaks, and then without. The defaults really are the optimal settings. This is, after all, friendly advice to help those who are not as educated in the field of computers. Edit: Here's the exact command to enter via Run Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks When called from the command line, the ProcessIdleTasks work is done in the background asynchronously. It can take 10 to 15 minutes for idle tasks to complete. Task Manager will report processes running, and the disk will likely be active during this time.
  21. Look into all of those services more; you may learn some things. Here's a very accurate Myths page that points to debunking myths. The website is by a technician who has written Dial-a-fix (which is getting high recognition by Microsoft). Even this guy clearly knows "tweaking" is bad.
