  1. Couple of comparison reviews :

We believe that a lot of these performance problems are related to the earliness of the drivers. Over time, we feel that Vista performance will at least get close to the performance obtainable inside Windows XP - the completely new driver platform is more than likely the route of most of the apparent shortfalls.

Windows Vista clearly is not a great new performer when it comes to executing single applications at maximum speed. Although we only looked at the 32-bit version of Windows Vista Enterprise, we do not expect the 64-bit edition to be faster (at least not with 32-bit applications).

Overall, applications performed as expected, or executed slightly slower than under Windows XP. The synthetic benchmarks such as Everest, PCMark05 or Sandra 2007 show that differences are non-existent on a component level. We also found some programs that refused to work, and others that seem to cause problems at first but eventually ran properly. In any case, we recommend watching for Vista-related software upgrades from your software vendors.

My power consumption testing proves what I had been theorizing for some time about the introduction of the new Aero Glass user interface; idle power consumption has gone up slightly across the board. Since the new Aero Glass UI uses the DX9 technology to draw everything you see on the screen, the GPU is a lot less "idle" than it was before. Still, a modest 5-7 watts isn't much to worry about.

The load power consumption hasn't changed from XP to the Vista, and that also makes sense as the Aero interface isn't running during full screen gaming.

  2. Two of the buzzwords surrounding the launch of Microsoft's Windows Vista Operating System are SuperFetch and, perhaps more prominently, ReadyBoost. Tom's Hardware Guide examines and benchmarks both of these additions to the OS to see if they actually do improve performance at all.

Vista comes with two mechanisms that effectively reduce the time required to launch popular applications: SuperFetch analyzes your behaviour and proactively puts applications into available main memory, so they can be launched quicker. Of course this requires as much main memory as possible, which is where the second feature engages: ReadyBoost allows expanding the main memory size by plugging in a USB 2.0 Flash drive. Although the data transfer performance of USB 2.0 devices cannot compete with modern hard drives, access times for Flash memory are literally nonexistent, making these devices a nice and particularly cheap choice.

Epic expands its love affair with Xbox 360. First footage and new details.

January 25, 2007 - Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it's coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007.

Using the Unreal Engine 3 (what other engine would it really use?), Epic's seminal first-person shooter will douse gamers with gorgeous, life-like graphics, arm them with unbelievable futuristic and brutal weaponry, and hurl them into online deathmatches like never before.

Run and gun (and swear like a sailor) like never before in UT3.

The new game comprises a vast number of changes from increased aggressiveness and intelligence in the AI to better, more ridiculously powerful weapons to new characters, game modes, and online improvements. New weapons are highlighted by the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon, and more than two dozen weapons will be ready to wield when UT3 is ready in the second half of 2007.

The new single-player campaign is deeper and more engaging than before, and players will be happy to know that old favorite characters have returned and are joined by several new ones. Epic plans to provide advanced online changes to suit all three platforms, bringing seamless loading, improved matchmaking and co-operative campaign online play. Yes, cooperative online play indeed. Familiar online modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag will be joined by an all-new Warfare mode among others. And PC gamers will be happy to get their sweaty mitts on the bundled Unreal Engine Toolset, enabling them to build their own levels, game types, rules, mods, and more.

We'll have more on Unreal Tournament 3 soon. In the meantime check the new screens and video.

  4. Big vote for Harmon

They look nice and they sound so niceeee, i had a listen to them in one shop, and they are very good for 2.1.

Logitech will deliver more punch to it, but for music i go for harmon.

  5. If you run bf2142 along side software like TDImon free TCP/UDP monitor, http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/TdiMon.html, you will find that one of the remote connections that BF2142.exe uses is to 72.3.184.153:17475

If you go to NetworkSolutions and WHOIS the IP Address you will get:

    WHOIS Record For

    72.3.184.153

    Record Type: IP Address

    IGA Technologies, LLC RSPC-68993-1122139655 (NET-72-3-184-144-1)

    72.3.184.144 - 72.3.184.159

IGA is IGA Worldwide and they handle the ads.

    !!!Gotcha!!!

Possible solutions is to block port 17475 or better yet block ip address range 72.3.184.144 - 72.3.184.159.

I did and the game ran find. Please note that they maybe using other ports and ip addresses so in the upcoming days I'll do more testing.

In other news, EA has posted a solution to the message boards detailing a method of "unlocking your unlocks":

We have identified an issue in-game where your rank may not update immediately after earning the requisite number of points. If your account is not properly ranking up in Battlefield 2142, you may want to try moving to another ranked server in order for your account to update. Once you score a point on the new ranked server, the account should automatically update to the new rank. If your account is missing more than one rank, each additional point scored will update your account to the next rank earned.

  6. Not just for gaming, this piece of software is actually LAN over WAN, which means sharing of documents is possible..

    I know what it is n1k :P

I used other software for vpn but they where crap compared to this, and much more complex to configure.

    Great app
