    Reason: RunOnce & RunOnceEx not being executed in Windows 7

    If you find that RunOnce & RunOnceEx not being executed in Windows 7 or Vista then the reason could probably be that you are logged in as a Standard user!

    A command set to execute via RunOnce or RunOnceEx may not execute as expected.

    The registry keys effected are:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunonceEx

    Standard Users do not have appropriate permissions to execute from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

    Commands executed from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER RunOnce or RunOnceEx keys should work as expected, if logged in with an Admin account.

    To execute commands from HKEY_CURRENT_USER, you must log in with an Administrator account.

    Hi Liam. I'm testing a workaround with this registry key via setupcomplete not for RunOnce but RunOnceEx. if its finished i'll give feedback.

     

    SET KEY=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx

    if exist %WINDIR%\System32\WinToolkitRunOnce.exe REG ADD %KEY%\500 /VE /D "Driver-Installation" /f

    if exist %WINDIR%\System32\WinToolkitRunOnce.exe REG ADD %KEY%\500 /V 1 /D "%WINDIR%\System32\WinToolkitRunOnce.exe" /f

    EDIT: test successful. for me it works this way. runonceex seems to be the more reliable way.

    for information : my life system is x64. for testing i use x86 because it's quicker to do. all the test installations i do is in VirtualBox 4.3.8.

    thanks for your notice. now it's only for testing with a few drivers to see if your RunOnce.exe will be doing what I (!!! :gleam:  :D ) want. later when driver collection is completed root of another drive on harddisk or usb-stick is better solution

    DRIVERS folder on Win7-DVD root doesn't work like all other methods. i think anything in SETUPCOMPLETE breaks the execution of your WinToolkitRunOnce.exe. in build 1.4.34.2 of wintoolkit it works. it executed immediately after the RunOnceEx SETUPCOMPLETE does.

    now i did another test. packed DRIVERS\USB3\ASMEDIA\xxx.inf into 7zip-SFX which is executed by SETUPCOMPLETE.cmd and extracts DRIVERS\USB3\ASMEDIA\xxx.inf on %SYSTEMDRIVE%. same result: it didn't work. looks similar to $OEM$\$1 method. C:\DRIVERS\USB3\ASMEDIA\xxx.inf. now when i go to Windows\System32 folder and double click on your WinToolkitRunOnce.exe drivers will be installed. i haven't got any idea what's going wrong.

    no the inf's are in the subfolder of DRIVERS with its drivers. like this : DRIVERS\USB3\ASMEDIA\xxx.inf

     

     

    Edit: DRIVERS\USB3\ASMEDIA\xxx.inf   <- this i copy into sources\$OEM$\$1 on Win7 DVD. looks like that : sources\$OEM$\$1\DRIVERS\USB3\ASMEDIA\xxx.inf

     

    After SETUPCOMPLETE does his job and RunOnce SCOMPLETE did, your silent-installer installed the drivers. now on last versions of wintoolkit it didnt. when i look into root of %SYSTEMDRIVE% folder DRIVER and hit content is there

    i mean with DRIVER folder in $$OEM$$\$1 on windows dvd sources folder. after installation DRIVERS folder is on %SYSTEMDRIVE%. this way it worked without problems in version 1.4.34.2. nothing else i had to be done. silent installer installed the drivers on logon and everything was fine. now it doesn't work anymore

    Did you made any changes and previous RUNONCE installations via SETUPCOMPLETE.cmd made silent-installer real silent ?  :D

    Updates MS say didn't integrate offline should move automatically into silent-installer. the other who make eventually issues its the decition of the user. you should make something like right click on the specific update and there "Move to silent-Installers"
