No, every version of Windows has all the necessary the files in the winsxs folder, this is why you can integrate ALL updates into any sku, the files are waiting there for you in case you ever upgrade your edition with anytime upgrade
Use /Get-TargetEditions on a mounted image and it will let you know what versions it can be upgraded to, here is starter:
Editions that can be upgraded to:Target Edition : UltimateTarget Edition : ProfessionalTarget Edition : HomePremiumTarget Edition : HomeBasic

@pedilover, while your curiosity and concern as to the future of Win Toolkit is valid, and all of us who have any interest at all in Win toolkit would love to have the completed product now or at least know when we can expect it, the point that mooms, dareckibmw, and Kel are trying to make is that it is completely pointless for you to post the question. None of us know what the situation really is. If any of us knew, I can assure you that we would post the status. We have no reason to withhold such information from any of the WinCert members.
The only one who knows what is going on is Liam. His activity level here has gone up and down several times over the last few years as his personal and school demands have ebbed and flowed. So far, he has always come back, eventually. As we understand it, his future school degree currently depends on the work experience and knowledge he gains through the continuing development of Win Toolkit, so we have no reason to believe that he would abandon it. Even if his plans change, he has been honest enough in his dealings with us over the years that we feel sure he would tell us if that was the case.
While you might have just been wondering out loud what is going on and hoping that Liam is OK, the way you stated it -- 'Is "wintoolkit" dead?' -- comes across as pessimistic, and we would prefer to be optimistic, and patiently wait. If you were hoping that Liam is indeed watching the thread and would respond to your query, he might have thought the way you stated it was slightly insulting, though I assume you didn't mean it that way. He also might have interpreted your post as spreading FUD, as I think Kel did. But again, i don't think you meant it that way.I choose to believe that you you were merely asking if anyone knew anything. If any of us ever hear any status update for Win Toolkit we will be sure to post it here so everyone will know. Please be patient and keep the faith.

Sorry, but the rules we must follow are that not only do the files have to be original and unchanged, but each end user has to obtain those files directly from an authorized distribution source.

I tried a fresh installation of Windows 7 with Rick's .net Framework 4.6, and this update was asked and successfully installed by WU.
Then nai4fle must have a different issue, or something wrong with his system, or I misunderstood.

If you used Dism++ to compact, and the update did not install after that, then it might be that Dism++ is at fault. To test, you could do a build and do everything you usually do except do not use Dism++. If the update then installs correctly, then that would seem to point the finger at Dism++ and you should address this with the Dism++ developers so they could help figure out what exactly is creating the problem. You could also ask over at MDL if anyone else has had similar problems. Please report back with whatever you find out.

From what I understand, Windows 10 has indeed tightened up the permissions so that it is much more difficult, if it is possible at all, to do certain things to various parts of the system, even if you are the administrator. Just one more reason that I don't like Windows 10.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding things, but if what nai4fle is saying is that KB3083186 will not install via WU/MU on a live system that was last updated with Rick's previous .NET repack, then that seems like a legitimate problem with the .NET repack, doesn't it? I haven't tried to install it myself since I usually just wait until Rick updates his repack and use that, but still ...

... those tags seem to be generated automatically, b/c I didn't do anything fancy when including the url in the post i made. I literally just highlighted the url in firefox's url bar, and right clicked then copy, and pasted in the link.
They are generated automatically. But just because it's automatic doesn't mean it's always correct. That's the advantage of having access to the bbcode mode so you can fix it manually when it messes up. An example of when I always have to fix things is when I'm typing along and want to bold a potion of what I'm entering. If I highlight and bold the very last part of a sentence, then try to continue typing more stuff immediately following that, I find that bold is "stuck" on, and it continues in bold, so I have to highlight and un-bold. When I switch to bbcode mode, I have better control since I can manually control exactly where the [ /b ] tag is located. But then I'm old school, before all of this fancy, schmancy, automatic stuff existed.

You know me. Personally, I take the view "If it isn't broken, don't fix it." But we've had this discussion before and I completely understand your viewpoint and it is just as valid as well. I'm game if you are and I'll support whatever decision you make. You might want to make a thread and take a survey? But again, the final choice is yours.

well I've just experienced the same problem again. I'm thinking that the problem is somehow related to links that I copy and paste while using firefox. @ccl0, I fixed your post at the above link. You should be able to do it next time yourself, but I'll be glad to help if you need me to. The problem was created somehow when you pasted in the url. All of your text you entered was still there, it just wasn't displaying correctly. When I switched to bbcode mode and looked closely at the link, the closing tag of the link was like this:
... #ftag=YHFb1d24ec [/url]seems ...
while it should be like this:
... #ftag=YHFb1d24ec[/url] seems ...
Look very, very closely at where the spaces are around the closing tag. When I changed the spaces it displayed correctly. Just hiiting the bbcode button and hitting save isn't enough.
While in bbcode mode, look and see if you can figure out what is wrong, and then fix it, before you hit save. Cheers and Regards

It might be time to give the upgrade another try.
The response time of the current version of Taurun's site at http://www.lunarsoft.net/ seems quite good, better than that of previous versions, from what I remember, and that was the major complaint we had when we tried it before. It's up to you of course since the vast burden of work will fall to you. If you go ahead, if we need to go back for any reason, let me know and I'll copy any posts that were made in the new version so they can be copied back after the downgrade so we don't lose any content.Cheers and Regards

I haven't seen anyone quote a definitive MS document that fully explains all the details of the Windows 10 "upgrade" license or key info, but this thread seems to give the current "best guess" as to what happens and the impact on the existing Windows 7/8.x key used to "upgrade". [The "upgrade" opportunity is supposed to be available for a year from July 29th.] If I understand it correctly, we think that the Windows 10 key that is used on the "upgraded" machine is probably a generic one, and some kind of code based on the actual hardware, (probably the motherboard? ), of the machine that is "upgraded" is stored on the MS activation server and that is what is used to actually validate the Windows 10 installation, and this code can only be generated during an actual "upgrade" of an existing Windows 7/8.x/10 installation. Once the "upgrade" has been validated, the disc can be formatted and a clean install of Windows 10 can be done and it will automatically be validated again with the existing stored code. So if a Windows 10 re-installation is performed at a later date, as long as the key hardware components of the machine haven't changed since the original Windows 10 installation, the machine should self validate again with the existing stored code. What happens if you have to change the motherboard of the machine and want to keep using Windows 10 is unclear. As to what happens to the original Windows 7/8.x key of the machine that was used for the "upgrade", the guess is that after a "month" that key will be invalidated on the MS activation server so that it can not be used again. But what if the original key was an OEM or other generic type of key? No one seems to know for sure.
As I say, this is just the current best guess based on bits and pieces of various MS and other documentation along with some quick tests done and reported by users.

That tool you linked to seems to work great so I don't need to work on mine until a much later date
I wish you would work on it. I checked out the linked tool and most of the tool is in what I think is Chinese. I'm not sure all the Asian languages look the same to me.
I'm not sure where you are located or what your computer's language is set to, but I just tried v10.0.0.8 and it automatically came up in English for me. If you need to manually set it to English, you should be able to set it by selecting "English" from "Options/Language", see below: ( It might read differently to you, but the location should be the same )
Once you have it set correctly, everything you need to run the tool should be in English. Yes, there is still a lot in Chinese, but you should be able to do what you need to do. If needed, I think mooms has a version in French available, here, at least I think he has a French translation there.
