Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows what else is safe to delete before capturing an image. So far I have:

Files:

  • swapfile.sys
  • pagefile.sys
  • hiberfil.sys
  • Windows\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep_succeeded.tag
  • *.log files

Folders:

  • PerfLogs
  • Windows\Logs\CBS\*
  • Windows\Logs\DISM
  • Windows\Logs\PBR
  • Windows\Panther
  • Windows\Prefetch
  • Windows\System32\Sysprep\Panther
  • Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
  • Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
  • Windows\System32\winevt\Logs\*
  • Windows\Temp\*
  • Windows\WinSXS\Backup
  • Windows\WinSxS\ManifestCache\*

Can anyone think of anymore?

C:\Windows\WinSXS\Backup AFAIK, is required for Windows Resource Protection (sfc)

based on the refreshed Windows 8.1 released ISOs, i use this wimscript.ini exclusion list:

[ExclusionList]\Users\Administrator\Windows\Logs\CBS\*\Windows\Logs\DISM\Windows\Logs\PBR\Windows\Panther\Windows\Prefetch\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Panther\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Sysprep_succeeded.tag\Windows\System32\winevt\Logs\*\Windows\Temp\*\Windows\WinSxS\ManifestCache\*

This what I think could be deleted.

C:\users\*username*\

C:\AMD

C:\NVIDIA

C:\Windows\WinSXS\Backup AFAIK, is required for Windows Resource Protection (sfc)

So don't delete it?

Also when you have an asterisk in locations (e.g. \Windows\Temp\*) does that mean delete everything in the folder, but not the folder itself?

It's your choice

it's only used by sfc.exe if there is a system file corrupted so it replace it
