  1. Good work Bober and Amnesia. I have downloaded and installed the latest V'ISO, and find it to work very well so far. I have noticed the OOBE is not good enough however, the reason I say this, is because much of the white text is rendered against a white part of the backgroud, making it completely un-readable. Also the background image suffers from terrible compression artifacts. I use these files, by dropping them in to the extras folder of the V'ISO archive, and letting them replace the files that are already there... http://rapidshare.com/files/126105024/oobe.rar.html I have edited the text, and have changed all instances of the word "Vista", to "XP"
  2. Hi Bober, Just wondering what the changelog for the latest version is? I'm sorry for being away for so long (family stuff), but it looks like you and Amnesia have been very busy with great new things! I take it the issue of files being compressed and decompressed has been solved now? And I see Amnesia has been sharing some updated graphics love with us all! I look forward to testing this very soon.
  3. I will test your code a bit later Bober, the wife wants to go shopping! hehehe
  4. Thanks for the info Bober. What is needed, is the script to check for the existance of both files (decompressed and compressed) and take the appropriate action. That way users can be sure that the files will be patched properly. I'm looking in to what files the RVMI actually compresses. I will be back soon... Hmmm, Winntbbu.DLL is the only file in the i386 root dir that the RVMI compresses... *** Full Results *** OK, after comparing original against an image updated with a full update pack, and Optimize System Settings used in the RVMI, these are the following files (.dll) which are compressed by the RMVI... WINNTBBU.DLL \I386 CFGMGR32.DLL \I386\WIN9XUPG MSVCRT.DLL \I386\WIN9XUPG SETUPAPI.DLL \I386\WIN9XUPG CFGMGR32.DLL \I386\WINNTUPG SETUPAPI.DLL \I386\WINNTUPG TSCOMP.DLL \I386\WINNTUPG MSPATCHA.DLL \I386\WIN9XMIG\MAPI\DLL MDMSHRUP.DLL \I386\WINNTUPG\MS\MODEMSHR ATL.DLL \I386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\VCRTL MFC42.DLL \I386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\VCRTL MFC42U.DLL \I386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\VCRTL MSVCP60.DLL \I386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\VCRTL GDIPLUS.DLL\I386\ASMS\1000\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS MSVCIRT.DLL \I386\ASMS\7000\MSFT\WINDOWS\MSWINCRT MSVCRT.DLL \I386\ASMS\7000\MSFT\WINDOWS\MSWINCRT COMCTL32.DLL \I386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\WINDOWS\COMMON\CONTROLS Now .EXE's... DWWIN.EXE \I386\DRW And 2 files show up after update pack addition... ntkrnlpa.exe \I386 ntkrpamp.exe \I386
  5. Amnesia, can I assume that for all files (WINNT32A.DLL - WINNT32U.DLL - WINNTBBA.DLL - WINNTBBU.DLL) that are not compressed, that set com=DLL is used INSTEAD of set com=DL_ ? ** EDIT ** I'm going to assume that the above is the case, so here is an updated version of a pre-compiled V'ISO.BAT http://rapidshare.com/files/124925327/V_ISO.bat.html *** Another Update *** WINNTBBU.DLL is in fact compressed (at least on my original MS image of XP SP3), so I have updated V'ISO.bat once more, hopefully for the last time! Please download again. *** God strikes again!!! *** I have run in to a problem... I use the RyanVM Integrator to update my Windows CD with, and have noticed that WINNTBBU.DLL is compressed by it automatically. So on a fresh CD WINNTBBU.DLL is uncompressed, like Amnesia says, but after integration, the file is compressed. I need to know what to do about this problem, anyone out there know the answer?
  6. Hi Amnesia, I found a couple of minor errors in your latest batch update, and corrected them. So I thought that I would post a pre-compiled V'ISO.bat file, with Bober's update, and your updates as well, Amnesia. To make everybodies life a little easyer! http://rapidshare.com/files/124921111/V_ISO.bat.html *** Updated to avoid confusion in later post ***
  7. Hello again Amnesia, you have been busy!!! I'm just catching up on everything you have been up to here, and was adding the updated commands you posted in to the viso batch file and wanted to ask you about this... :winnt32u set name=winnt32u set ext=dll set big=WINNT32U set com=DLL These are the only entries for winnt32u, and all other files have a lot more than this, so there seems to be some missing commands here? Or am I wrong? Keep up the amazing work!
  8. Thanks for the help Sm0k3r! I have been playing, and have fixed most, if not all the issues. The only remaining question I have, is how to use Icons in ResHacker? Here is a copy of the fixed .cpl file for you all to try. Please let me know what you think. http://rapidshare.com/files/123810852/sysdm.cpl.html
  9. Thanks for helping Bober. My only problem Bober, is that I need to save a .cpl file instead of a .res file, so that I can copy the .cpl file into System32, and see the results of my work. I tried renaming the .res file to .cpl, but Windows does not recognise the file. Is there some other program that will change a .res file into a finished .cpl file?
  10. Thanks Bober! You may just regret the offer! lol I have been playing with the sysdm.cpl.res file in Resource Hacker, and have things looking good, I just need to know how to save a .cpl file, that I can drop in to system32 and look at the results instantly. So can you tell me what program will output a normal .cpl file instead of a .res file? Many thanks for the help Bober.
  11. Hi again Amnesia, can you tell me how once you have edited the .cpl that you can save it again as a .cpl and not a .res file? I want to test what I have done, and don't fancy re-installing the computer each time I make a change. Thanks for all your help so far.
  12. What you talkin about! lol Your so close! Your doing an amazing job, single handed too! I wish I had the program your using to do this, as I would love to help out, and stop barking error reports at people
  13. Thanks for the fast work Amnesia... Just installing now... OK, Just finnished installing now, and can report that the text is fixed in the Activation box, however... You can select any text in this activation box, and get a blinking cursor, all other boxes do not behave like this. On a related subject, can you change the text that is in the Windows Version box to be more complete, like the normal version eg: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version: 2002 Service Pack 3 And I'm totally nit-picking here, but if you moved the text down by one line in the System box, it would match the others, and look better. And you have fixed the UPS tab. One question, is the progress bar type gadget supposed to be there, under the text "The UPS service is currently stopped."?
  14. Hi Amnesia, thanks for the new files. Right, I'm sorry to say that neither of your files are working properly. 1.) The font justification is fixed in the Activation Information box, but the text is messed up. The top line of text is only half visable, with the only information clearly visable being the product ID code. 2.) The Remote icon is back again! I think it likes being there or something! More Faults and observations... 3.) The bitmap for the Wireless Network Setup Wizard shows a picture of a Logitech Webcam! lol 4.) If you open the Speech icon in the control panel, it has text down the left hand side, that is from the Windows folder view, such as "Related Tasks" "launch Speaker Setup Wizard" and "Launch Accessibility Control Panel". None of these are links, or clickable. 5.) The bitmaps that descibe the Advanced Speaker Settings in the Sounds And Audio Devices panel, do not describe the option selected. 6.) The UPS tab in Power Properties has miss-aligned text, and the Caution logo (Because I dont use a UPS) is miss-aligned with the box that it is supposed to be inside. 7.) The mouse Pointer does not animate, this is inside a virtual PC, during GUI Setup, and at the Desktop after Installation, where it animates once or twice, then never animates again. It animates fine using Ricks original V'ISO. I must state that all testing is done on an original Microsoft image of Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3RTM. No Addons, tweaks or Update Packs. I know you probably have nothing to do with some of these problems Amnesia, as in that you did not create the files in the first place, but I am keeping a list of things here so that others can look in to these problems as well.
  15. Hi Amnesia, thanks for looking in to these issues. And don't think that I thought you was a pirate or somthing! It never entered my head, so please don't think I was trying to say that you was! I installed Bober's V'ISO, and was very pleased with it. No problems at all to report, all was as it should be, including the Bootlogo, that now fades up properly, as well as the text banners, they are fine also. So issues number 4 and 5 are the only outstanding issues now. So many thanks for your work Bober! And Amnesia, I'm sorry to say, but the file you posted does remove the icon from the remote window, but now in its place is a white square on top of the bitmap, where the icon was before.
  16. Just a few observations about your modded version of V'ISO Amnesia... 1.) During Windows GUI Setup, some of the text banners are missing or have missing text. 2.) A pirate flag is visible in the top right of the setup dialogue boxes during GUI setup. I don't have or use a pirate version, so I dont really feel comfortable with this. Just my personal feelings about this, after all, just because I like to mod my XP disc, it does not make me a pirate, right? lol. :shy: :tumbleweed: 3.) It says "XP Pirated" in the System Properties. I can't speak for others here, but I personally would like all references to pirates, and software pirating removed. 4.) In the Remote tab of System Properties, you can still see the old remote icon on top of your new bitmap on the left side. 5.) The text contained in the Activation Information box, inside System Properties is center justified, and not left-justified like the other two boxes above and below it, making it look kind of out of place, and ugly. 6.) The icons in the Shutdown Menu box are not right, they look weird and maybe miss aligned. The original ones in Ricks V'ISO looked much better. 7.) During bootup, after at first GUI setup, and every other restart or startup after, the boot logo starts fully visable, then dissapears, then fades up like normal. But other than those few problems, it looks really good!
  17. Amnesia, I was just thinking... Have any other files been added to V'ISO that are not part of the original script?
  18. Really good of you to bring this up to date amnesia!!! Thanks!!!!!! *EDIT* Does this version patch wuaucpl.cpl.mui.res?
  19. Many thanks for this HJW I have a quick question for you, if you don't mind!!! Ever since I have my new widescreen LCD monitor, I have started to use a higher resolution for Windows setup, and I would like to know, is it possible to use higher resolution images in the OOBE than 1024x768? Even 1280x1024 would be a dramatic improvement!
  20. Hi Amnesia, I have a question which could turn in to a request... During Windows GUI Setup, I have noticed that the first dialogue box thats just telling you its now going to install Windows has a lovely coloured image on the left side of it, but the next dialogue box, the one that requests the regional setup (where you input what nationality and keyboard settings to use) has just a world icon in the left hand side, the same for the next dialogue box (the one that asks for your name and company info), I gues the dialogue boxes must use system icons. My question is... Is it possible to change those icons, and swap them out so that they use those really nice images that you have used in other places? I just think they would jazz up Windows Setup just a little bit more!!!
  21. Hi Rick, and thanks for your fast reply! I sounded like I was criticizing your choices about the Vista OOBE, and it sounded much better in my head than it sounded reading it back on here! So my apologies for my tone. I have taken your advice and everything is great. Also a big thanks for posting your fixed .BAT file. As far as the copy dialogue is concerned, it's not the progress bar, but the request Vista comes up with when it finds 2 similar files, and asks you what to do, i.e copy, replace, ignore and so on. It is shown in the link provided by HJW post number 310. I'm only wondering if this is possible for you to do, or weather its some kind of program that changes the dialogue boxes. But thanks again for this great piece of work! I hope you have luck with your update attempts
  22. Hello Ricktendo! I just wanted to say thank you for this amazing project! I have only just descovered it, and have used it just now for the first time, and was amazed by the look and feel of XP after this pack. I do have some questions, so I hope you dont mind too much... 1.) I dont really like the whole Vista name all over the OOBE and boot screen, as I really don't see Vista as being better than XP SP3, So I modded the install with the DarkAvrora OOBE, and edited the HTM files to say XP pro ect... And it looks amazing. 2.) do you have any plans to release an update to this, including the files from Amnesia, as well as the updates you posted on post 520? I also Have seen a screenshot of an XP installation with the copy dialogs changed to be the same as Vista (posted by HJW post 510 in this thread) 3.) The bug reported by kaylar (post 533 in this thread) what problem(s) does this cause? 4.) How do you make your install program ask for the destination directory, as I cannot find this option in WinRAR. Thanks so much for your hard work, I hope you don't mind me asking you these questions.
