  1. "xpize is a utility program for Windows XP (both 32-bit and 64-bit)and Windows Server 2003 (32-bit and 64-bit) that replaces most of thebits in Windows that didn't match XP's style with bits that do. The software contains no spyware or adware, it is a purely volunteer-driven community effort; it is also easily uninstallable. xpize does not replace any files, system or otherwise. Instead it "patches" the files by replacing the old resources inside the files. For a similar utility for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, check out the Vize Project." download: link here is the messageboard where he offers troubleshooting etc http://www.msfn.org/...xpize-f112.html here is a screenshot of a side by side comparison of how some of it looks: http://xpize.net/ima...tuffupdated.jpg (although this is just one example since xpize includes five different resource schemes). more screenshots here: http://xpize.net/screenshots.php video tutorial:
  2. i have and still do. one difference is some do not come with the integrated heat spreader. if that is the case you need to make sure the heatsink you use will be able to work. and also some are different pin configurations compared to the desktop part. so make sure to do your research to find a compatible motherboard
  3. contact nero customer support. the addon forum is not the forum to be asking.
  4. where can i get the nero addon creator? and also, does it work with nero 8 as well?
  5. i was looking for this. and the download link still works too
  6. if i had to guess, and all it is is a guess, i'd say it might be updated before sp1 hits... whenever that might be
  7. imagine taking over an hour to download a 5mb file thats what dialup was like
  8. considering 7 is very close to vista, i'm guessing it probably won't be too difficult to make it work. when i say not too difficult, i mean not having to create a completely new tool for 7. oh and btw your copy and paste merged a lot of words together
  9. these might be good to make some boot screens out of http://ricdigital.de...-Pack-128636559 edit: hmm nevermind. they all say "windows vista". that would not work for xp. so i've written the guy and asked him if he can make some for xp or provide generic ones
  10. replace task bar & caption bar icons to a transparent one without reshacking any programs. Link
  11. well back when it first came out, hard drives were much smaller. there were no 500gb+ drives out there. i think the biggest were like 20gb, maybe smaller (too long ago to recall).. fully installed i think w2k only took up around 500mb. xp fully installed was around 2gb i think, and had lots of bloat (compared to w2k at least). w2k was very small and (at least in my opinion) faster than xp. i think i used w2k until 2006.. eventually companies stopped supporting it due to xp being much more popular and also my hard drive was much larger by then, so i decided to make the switch the bloat in xp doesn't bother me much anymore, and what i don't like i just remove with nlite
  12. found another solution that (i think) does not rely on disabled wfp. i have not tested it however. requires a bit of hex editing but you dont't have to worry about that wfp changes back the original file. open system32/sfcfiles.dll in a hex editor. look for this string: 6500780070006C006F007200650072002E006500 65006500 (it is: explorer = e.x.p.l.o.r.e.r, just in a "hex" format) you will find this "e.x.p.l.o.r.e.r.e.x.e" 5 times. now rename all of this to "e.x.p.l.o.r.e.r.e.x.x" or whatever you want. save the file then replace it, restart. (oh and don't forget to replace in dllcache folder as well. just to be sure) now the wfp will not give a damn about what you do with explorer.exe. if you replace it or reshack it, windows just won't find out that it's been altered or replaced. because this sfcfiles.dll contains the listof the protected files in windows xp. now if you rename one of these items in this list, windows just will treat it as a normal non-protected file. because in this case the "explorer.exx" file doesn't exist.
  13. what exactly is a 'wave' ? i could never figure out if that meant beta.. or..something else... :tired:
  14. that is windows 7 'special edition' :icon_cool:
  15. if anyone is interested here is a list of the locations for the events http://wingeek.com/articles/39907/free-windows-7-at-launch-events/
  16. PunkBuster is basically something that prevents hacks/exploits/cheaters
  17. i didnt try it. i don't understand french so i didn't know what the person was writing about in the description i was hoping there was a more elegant solution like a .reg entry to modify the text there or something other than uxtheme patcher, i don't like the idea of hacking windows files b/c i think you have to disable that windows file protection thing. edit: after a long time searching i think i finally found how it was done. there issomething called lspatch, which edits the explorer.exe file. however,it has not been updated in a couple years i believe, and i have found mention in other forums that it can potentially screw up your system and remove some dllcache files or something another way i found is to manually do it. "Just open %windir%\Explorer.exe file in Resource Hacker and go to: String Table -> 439 -> 1033 And in right-side, delete the text saying "Log Off" & "Turn Off" in 7012 & 7013 lines. Now compile and save the file... - the only down side to this is you have to disable windows file protection to modify the explorer.exe file.
  18. oops. i must have missed that part about one of them containing wallpaper and one of them not edit: but the file size is pretty different. lite version is 14mb, full version is 64mb
  19. hey worf, would you have any idea how to remove or hide the words 'log off" and "turn off computer" from the start menu? for example: http://ludo35300.deviantart.com/art/explorer-exe-Seven-for-XP-fr-112836917 is the closest i've found, but i'm hoping there is another way other than using a modified .exe file plus its in french, so i dont think it would work on my US xp OS
  20. what is the difference between full and lite versions?
  21. looks good as usual, but i'm tired of seeing so many vista/w7 clones. its been done so many times by so many people, that there is no originality anymore in doing it. no offense
  22. yeah but that is if you live in the US. theres some programs over here but its for developers and stuff.. also you have to sit through like 6hrs of lectures (i hear they hand it out only at the end of the day)
  23. i just found these: for people who like different colors, someone made a mod of the 'royal' theme in various colors. http://avenger3871.d...aleDX2-68177602 edit: bah it doesn't have a compact start menu option like the original ones =/
  24. this is old but i've gotten a little closer to finding out how to do this. today i stumbled upon this http://ludo35300.deviantart.com/art/explorer-exe-Seven-for-XP-fr-112836917 (although i've no idea what the text says) i'm still hoping to find a .reg entry that does the same thing though. i'd rather use a solution like that than to use a modified windows files
