[Solved] WinToolkit silent installer throws an error: 'NSIS Installer Error'

Recommended Posts

I'm using the WinToolkit version '' and I'm editiing a Windows 8.1 image.

I've added some silent unninstallers and the problem begins just before the WinToolKit installer starts, it shows an annoying error messagebox that stops the Windows Setup process with this text: 'NSIS Installer Error'.

I want to clarify that the bug is not from any of my uninstallers for two reasons:
1st. The installbuilder that I use for all my installer files is 'INNO Setup' (not NSIS)
2nd. Like I've said this happens before WinToolkit launches the WinToolkit silent installer, then I need to prees 'Ok' in the error message to launch the WinToolkit installer to continue the setup to start installing the silent installers.

PS: The bug does not happenned me time ago with a Windows 8 ISO, but in that time I was using an older version of WinToolkit.

This is very urgent for me, I don't know in what frequency the WinToolkit team people launches new fixed releases but I think that I can't wait for a fix, I'm really dessesperated.

Extra Info (if needed):

This is information taken from MSDN about the ISO image of Windows 8.1 that I'm manipulating with WinToolkit:

FileName: es_windows_8_1_x64_dvd_2707379.isoBuild...: 6.3.9600.16384.WINBLUE_RTM.130821-1623Language: SpanishSHA1....: 08C6B43ED6C96E7F98DAED9D13308E536B6D1481MD5.....: 2757FB97811CE7357A5762BA8AF9E55F

And this is the settingf file of WinToolkit that I'm using:

At times Lego gets tied up with real life, and he is the only developer, so it might be awhile before a further update.  The time between updates sometimes varies wildly.  Since you are "desperate", you can help find the problem if you can do some more test runs.

1. Make a build just like the one that causes problems, but use an older version of Win Toolkit, so we can see at what point Win Toolkit changed to cause your issue.

2. Make a build with the latest version of Win Toolkit, but without any silent installers, just to see what happens.

3. Assuming (2) works, slowly add a few silent installers at a time to see if the problem might be related to a particular silent installer.  I'm not saying that would mean that it is that silent installer's fault, but it could point to some kind of dependency issue or something.

4. If (2) doesn't work, make a build without any tweaks.  Then slowly add them back in as in (3).

Bottom line, you want to try and determine if the problem occurs only with a particular installer, or tweak, or group of installers, or if it occurs with any installer no matter which one or how many.  Same with the tweaks you use.  If none of those tests provide any resolution, the only other thing you can try is to do the same kind of thing with your updates you integrate to see if one of them works better being installed at RunOnce.

Upload any logs created and provide a link to them here.  I know it's a lot of work, but the more testing and info you can provide the more likely the true problem can be resolved sooner.  Anything you can do will help.

Cheers and Regards

It's gonna be really hard to find out the problem bymyself since I'm not the developer of the app.

I didn't mentioned before that I've added an SFX installer made with WinRAR together with the INNO Setup installers (and the SFX file is the first silent installer of all), I'm gonna start trying to delete that... I will report my issues and logs here.

Thanks for the help.

PS: The thing why I'm desesperated is because I'm trying to make a working unattended installation of Win8.1 to format my HDD and to make more chnages, but if I need to wait 1 or 2 months or more for a fixed update then... it's a lot. :(

PD2: Sorry for my English.
