I have had the same experience... I have added so much to my xml since it was 1st generated and I am still learning/experimenting with this.
My autounattend.xml was generated by WTK at the beginning, then I begun to use WAIK on the same file: no problem at all.

I have spent all weekend testing and updating my integration process and KB2823180 doesn't want to play nice at all... I integrate McRip's updates in STEP-1 STEP-1-UPDATES-07-07-13.ini and then I integrate my SFX items which includes KB2823180 (after .NET 4.5) STEP-2-SFX-07-06-13.ini and it always shows in MS Update.... even the KUC shows it uninstalled YET Windows update history shows it installed... has me stumped.
-
So I got through my Step-1 and Step-2 and after a little tweaking I got all but KB2823180 to integrate perfectly (I will get back to KB2823180 and figure it out) but I decided to use the latest KUC to see where I stood with the image and damn it showed that I had to download 49 updates with lots more changes than I expected. KUC_packages_OUT.TXT This really surprised me and has me re-thinking how I want to use the tools moving forward

update request filled

WOW that's pretty amazing...
With my SSD, integration time is 10 mins for Win 7 x86, 15 mins for x64. But I only integrate WU's requested updates.
List here.

Hello All,
I have been absent for quite sometime due to serious personal issues which were only amplified when my two laptops and Galaxy S3 phone were rendered useless due to an accident. Getting back to where I left off has been difficult and I am still not close but working on it, so I hope to be visiting and participating more frequently again.
i needed to make a new image for myself to get my laptop backup and running so I used an E6520 I7 with 16 GIG of ram and a Samsung 840 Pro SSD to start my process. I decided to create a softperfect ram disk ( it tested to be MUCH faster than any other ram disk I tried... using diskmark nothing nothing came close to it) I created a 10 GIG ram disk and copied my source and my 404 updates to it. STEP-1-UPDATES-07-04-13.ini
It took 1 hr and 30 minutes for the integration to complete which shaved and entire hr off my last integration on my other laptop. Keeping in mind that the other system had a much slower SSD I am not exactly comparing apples to oranges. I doubt I will test this without the ram drive for now but if I do I will report back... for now I need to get my system running.
I followed this thread but never had a chance to test anything until now so I thought I would provide some minor feedback. I am always curious as to the best way to optimize my integration time without compromising any reliability etc.
I have an I5 E5410 laptop with 4 GIG, an older Intel X-25 SSD and a Momentus XT HDD. I usually have my Temp and WinToolKit folders run from my SSD and my McRip update files and my WIM source on my HDD. Integrating about 400/425 updates consistently completes in 2 to 2 1/4 hrs. Their are always some variations in time and hotfixes so this is an approximation but it is always consistent and I always plan my integration's and time accordingly. I decided to try the integration with the McRip updates on the SSD instead of the HDD and see what the timing would be. Well there was no difference at all, it finished in the same amount of time.
I am setting up a new I7 laptop with 8 gig and a new SSD and out of curiosity I think I will try 1 more test which will be using the SSD for the WinToolKit and a Ram Drive for the McRip Updates and the WIM source. I actually doubt this will make any significant difference at all but I will report back.It will take me a little while and I will need a new baseline for an integration so I will try my best to be accurate and make a fair comparison.

Another big Big Thanks Rick

Thanks for the feedback... I have been working on Step 2 for the last few days and I just finished two new integration's with a revised Step 1 (including IE10). I will start updating the posts later this evening.
New to this tool and finding your guide quite helpful! Since you posted the initial process, MS has released IE10 for Win7. The folder structure downloaded from McRip seems fairly rich in sub-folders and file types. it would be quite instructive to get some insight into how this would be integrated.
Thank you for sharing

I realize that McRip certainly has his hands full but I noticed that this was not implemented in his latest server changes... do you know if this is still the plan?
McRip will be moving the folder you requested to the main folder.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just returned from a trip and I will be working on updating this info this week...

I held off commenting because I wasn't able to define a method of using KUC in an integrated manner (i'm not a programmer or coder) but this is quite nice indeed
Shows how short sighted you are, 1- KUC option could only be available if it detects KUC executable in the same directory 2- KUC, NOT the toolkit will be in charge of downloading the updates 3- Who cares what komm did with his own server, its his to do with what he pleases...
All lego needs to do: if wtk detects KUC in the same dir enable it, ask user for a path to a repo folder (with any updates (s)he has already downloaded,) after wtk mounts the image it runs KUC with the following command<kuc>.exe /DVD-Image-dir:<path_to_image_just_mounted> /up-dir:<any_temp_dir> /repo-dir:<repo_dir_specified_by_user>
Then the user clicks next and stuff, choose what updates (s)he needs, uses kuc to download missing updates from his repo folder and the user finishes...then the toolkit executes the CMD files in the "up-dir" to copy files to add, now that all the updates are copied and laid out for the toolkit all it needs to do is integrate the "normal" updates like it would normally and ONLY extract and install the LDR updates in the LDR folder
If you people want to blindly integrate updates not knowing if you need them or not be my guest, this is the last time you will hear me say this -
I also haven't checked yet but I am going to try today... Thiersee reported that .16 worked but .17 didn't... http://www.wincert.net/forum/topic/11068-windows-update-agent-not-integrated-in-v14117/?p=96636
Sorry, haven't been around lately... so is this solved in the latest build? Going to check this also tommorow probably...

That's awesome I have a DS212j
Just FYI, but if any of you own a fairly recent Synology NAS (I own an 109+) DiskStation, and they have just released DSM4.2, which has the ability to setup the NAS so it can be a PXE/TFTP server. I haven't figured it out yet, but it seems to do a lot of the server work for you in one device.

I love the KUC but at this point of learning just pick one method and use that... since this is the WinToolKit thread use it as your 1st step and download McRips files and it will work well.
Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't I use Komm's Update checker against my WIM file instead of just the Update Catalog in Win Toolkit? The Update Catalog would seem to be more convenient if I could get all of the updates there.
-
I am soo busy with my own integration and work issues that I didn't check yet because I want to be able to concentrate when I do... but trust me I am really interested and will definitely get to it... Thanks very much
-
MeltManBob the way I do it is to use McRips updates and WinToolKit... I do use the KUC but my method is to use it as a 2nd run which I haven't explained yet... trying to get to it. Anyway I download all of McRip's and select some of the additional updates along with the rest of the GDR/LDR items.
Here is my last Step-1 ini which does NOT include IE10:
This ini definitely works so as a test you could use it by just changing the txt to fit your folder structure
NOTE: this is not the latest set of updates that McRip has so it is slightly out of sync but should still work fine for testing
-
That is great news for everyone
McRip will be moving the folder you requested to the main folder.
-
No more direct downloads on his server due to the recent DOS attacks but the WinToolKIt and Windows Download Integrator work.
The McRip links are getting redirected to Microsoft.com. :dizzy:
-
Here is the Guide for it and as you can see in the pic the txt file should be listed... this feature is pretty much straight forward:
http://www.wincert.net/forum/topic/9571-update-catalog/?p=83745
Also on the main screen the Options button brings up general options and the Update Catalog Filter offers additional downloads
Hi Compstuff, I have never used the Toolkit for this before, and would love to know where you get the changelog.txt from, as I cannot see it in the list offered?
-
I personally use the KUC all the time and it works great so the fact that WinToolKit can't download from his server makes it pretty useless actually and just congests/confuses the option
I also wonder just how long both of these guys can keep up with this amazing resource they provide. It a daunting task and I can't fathom how much time they put into this.... add the contacts attacks they have both had and I can only say that I am sure it would have worn me down. It will be a great loss if we lose either of them
I have found the same. Just nothing on it. Komm is still updating his utility, but I don't know where it gets the files from, as I've never used it.
I would say get rid of it...
As a side note, I don't see either Komm or McRip doing this much longer. Both of them ran out of patience with various issues and certain types of users many, many months ago. I feel a Solor coming on... Shame for some of us grateful users who depend on their expertise.
-
That's the same result I get... empty folders
-
I would say yes... unless Komm plans on changes the access like McRip just did
-
I would really love to get the WU_Satisfy folder... but I already get the changelog.txt everytime I do an update
Hi Lego, I'm sure you have heard that McRip only lets your Toolkit and one other program access his server from now on, which is a damn shame, but understandable from his perspective.
My question is that now this change has happened, will you be updating the Toolkit to access more of his server, than just the main folder, and the additions folder?
It would also be good to be able to access the changelog.txt as well now.

So use to looking in the beta releases that I didn't check that thanks
Exactly!
Of course new release of WinToolkit.

McRip-Komm-Toolkit Integration
in Win Toolkit

I already created a separate post about KB2823180 but I just finished another test and after using McRips's updates which included the WU_Satisfy I was left with KB2823180 showing in MS Update and also in the KUC. I ran each step of the KUC process and after completion MS Update is clean and so is the KUC. I really can't explain or understand all the differences but everything seems complete and stable.
