Windows 11 may soon let users remove AI features
For years, removing unwanted Windows features has often meant digging through menus, PowerShell commands, or registry tweaks. That could soon change for AI-powered components in Windows 11. A newly discovered feature in an experimental Windows 11 Insider build suggests Microsoft is preparing a much simpler approach. Hidden within the System settings is a new section for AI components, where individual AI features can reportedly be removed using a standard uninstall button.

The discovery was made by well-known Windows enthusiast phantomofearth, who spotted the functionality before Microsoft officially documented it. While the company has not yet announced the feature, its presence indicates that AI tools may soon be treated more like optional apps rather than permanent parts of the operating system.
The timing is interesting. Over the past year, Microsoft has faced growing criticism from users who feel that AI features are being added faster than they can be managed. While some people actively use tools such as Copilot and other AI-powered experiences, others would prefer a cleaner Windows installation without features they never intend to use.
A dedicated uninstall option could help address both concerns. Users who want AI capabilities would keep them, while those who prefer a more traditional Windows experience could reclaim storage space and reduce system clutter with just a few clicks. For now, the feature remains limited to test builds, and Microsoft has not provided a timeline for a wider rollout. As with many Insider discoveries, there is no guarantee it will reach the final version of Windows.
