Edge Collections is being phased out
Microsoft is quietly shutting down the Collections feature in Edge, the tool that let users save links, notes, and research in one place. A new message in Edge now warns users that Collections is being retired and that no new items can be added. Instead, users are told to either export their data or move pages into Favorites.

Neither option is a true replacement. Moving items to Favorites keeps only links, stripping away notes and images. Exporting preserves everything, but only as a CSV file outside the browser. In other words, there’s no way to keep all Collections content fully intact inside Edge anymore.
The feature’s removal has been rumored for months, but the appearance of this warning suggests the process is now actively underway. Microsoft hasn’t shared a final removal date, which means anyone still relying on Collections should act sooner rather than later. As for why this is happening, it doesn’t appear to be a case of Microsoft killing off a loved tool. Usage of Collections reportedly dropped after it was reworked into a web-based feature, which many felt was slower and less polished than the original version. Lower engagement likely sealed its fate.
There’s also a broader pattern at play. Edge has been steadily refocused around Copilot, with other features losing priority or disappearing altogether. As Edge increasingly mirrors Copilot’s design and direction, older productivity tools seem to be getting pushed aside.
