Two of the buzzwords surrounding the launch of Microsoft's Windows Vista Operating System are SuperFetch and, perhaps more prominently, ReadyBoost. Tom's Hardware Guide examines and benchmarks both of these additions to the OS to see if they actually do improve performance at all. Read all their findings here

  9. Microsoft has created a test drive website to allow people to tinker with Windows Vista before they decide to purchase the software. The online test drive is powered by Microsoft Virtual Server Labs and requires at least IE6, enabled javascript browser, and installation of Virtual Server VRMC Advanced Control ActiveX control. If you have problems with playing DivX movies in Vista Media Player 11 here is what you can try: Open media player classic options select playback and output. Try changing the DirectShow Video options to VMR9 click ok the accept changes, restart WMP and try again. It worked for me. Media Center, on other hand, doesn't work well with divx. Every time I select a folder containing divx movies it crashes after few seconds (while it trys to display thumbnails). I tried with new DivX version and Xvid codecs and no luck. I managed to run a movie with MCE but after a short period it crashes again. Vplayer, radlight, DivX player don't work in vista also. I get sound but no pictu…

During Acrobat Reader 8.0 on Windows Vista you may get this error message: "The temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. Free up space on the drive or verify that you have write permission on the Temp folder." What you need to do is leave the error message open when it comes up, then fire up an Explorer window and go to: C:/Users//appdata/LocalLow/Netopsystems/temp/ Copy the Acrobat Reader 8.0 folder to some other folder, and run the installer from there.

Microsoft finally launches the long-awaited Windows Vista today, promising better security and improved search and claiming it will be the fastest ever adopted operating system it has released. But some users have already questioned the business benefits of upgrading to Vista, citing the relative stability and security of Windows XP and a lack of compelling features in Vista. Based on using the second beta version of Vista here are the five things to get excited about Vista for - and the five things you'll hate it for. Five things to love about Windows Vista Search or create virtual files - Forget directories, forget directory trees. Microsoft has integrated search throug…

As expected, Microsoft on Friday issued the second release candidate of Windows Vista - the last public build before the next-generation operating system is released to manufacturing. As with the interim build before it, RC2 will be available to a limited number of CPP participants, beta testers, as well as TechNet and MSDN subscribers. Full article and download link HERE. Will you guys try it? I'm just downloading it.. :punk:

If there's one thing that puts me off an application, it's when it unnecessarily inserts itself into the Windows startup process so that it can have its very own system tray icon from whence it can spam me with annoying messages. Obviously it makes sense for some applications to run on startup (for example, I want Windows Live Messenger to be running without me needing to manually start it each time). The problem is that there are multiple places where an application can register itself for execution on startup, and this makes it hard to retain control over which programs are granted such esteemed status. Of course, I wouldn't be writing this entry unless Windows Vista ha…

Recently my friend asked me for a valid serial for Vista RC1 so I've decided to open this topic.. If you wish to test Vista RC1 and all of the upcoming builds you should register here. and you'll be rewarded with a download link and a valid serial to use. Then you can try it out and tell us how much it rocks/sucks, depending on your expectations of what this OS is going to do for your work/productivity/marriage/sex life etc...

Using PartitionMagic, I created a "primary" partition on drive C: made up of 20 gigabytes of free space. I assigned the drive letter V: for Vista. When you apply your partition changes, PM will make you reboot. Then you hold your breath and pray while PartitionMagic rejigs things on your hard drive. If the gods are smiling upon you, you'll boot up into XP with a shiny new disk parition all set up. Now, once Windows XP is fully booted up and you can see your new 20GB drive, pop in the Vista DVD and run the install from there. Choose your newly created V: drive as the installation location, and let 'er rip. Vista will spend lots of time copying files and restarting your mac…

Any one who is running Vista RC1 should check out this site, Vista Scenario Voting has list of scenerios for vista and trails to see if people feel it is ready for RTM, run through as many as you can and give input back, this can help get the OS ready for RTM or get MS to fix things before RTM.
