How to use Windows 7 DISM by Muiz.
Q : What is DISM?
A : Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM)
Q : Why this guide?
A : Cause there is NO information about this tool out yet.
DISM is the replacement for the older deployment tools from Microsoft, like PKMGR and PEIMG
WAIK doesnt support this yet, so when you want to use WAIK, use it from a Vista or XP, not from a Windows 7
When you work from Windows 7, you dont need to install DISM, cause its already in it.
You can basicly do anything to your image with DISM, even aplly unattended settings to it , so you can use it unattended without XML.
How to get DISM?
Mount your Windows 7 and go to the System32 folder of the ofline image, and copy the "DISM" folder and "DISM.exe" to your Vista System32 folder.
Register the dll's inside(Some cant be registered)

For x64 users, you also have to grab the "SysWOW64" folder and the "DISM.exe" from there.
What i did was also added "DISM.exe" to my WAIK folder to make it even more easy to use.
Here is a small list with commands and a few examples, what you can do with dism.
You can get the example of each command by putting "/?" without the quotes after the command.
I did a few in this guide, but you can do this for each command.

DISM.exe [dism_options] {WIM_command} [<WIM_arguments>]
DISM.exe {/Image:<path_to_offline_image> | /Online} [dism_options]
{servicing_command} [<servicing_arguments>]

DESCRIPTION:

DISM enumerates, installs, uninstalls, configures, and updates features
and packages in Windows images. The commands that are available depend
on the image being serviced and whether the image is offline or running.

WIM COMMANDS:

/Get-MountedWimInfo - Displays information about mounted WIM images.
/Get-WimInfo - Displays information about images in a WIM file.
/Commit-Wim - Saves changes to a mounted WIM image.
/Unmount-Wim - Unmounts a mounted WIM image.
/Mount-Wim - Mounts an image from a WIM file.
/Remount-Wim - Recovers an orphaned WIM mount directory.
/Cleanup-Wim - Deletes resources associated with mounted WIM
images that are corrupt.

Examples :

/Mount-Wim /WimFile:<path_to_WIM_file> {/Index:<image_index> | /Name:<image_name

/MountDir:<target_mount_directory> [/readonly]

Mounts the WIM file to the specified directory so that it is available for
servicing. /ReadOnly sets the mounted image with read-only permissions.

Examples:
DISM.exe /Mount-Wim /WimFile:C:\test\images\myimage.wim /index:1
/MountDir:C:\test\offline

DISM.exe /Mount-Wim /WimFile:C:\test\images\myimage.wim /index:1
/MountDir:C:\test\offline /ReadOnly

/ScratchDir:<path_to_directory>

Specifies a temporary directory to be used for extracting files for
servicing. The directory must exist.

If not set, the temporary directory will be used.

Example:
DISM.exe /Image:C:\test\offline /scratchdir:D:\Scratch

IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS:

/Online - Targets the running operating system.
/Image - Specifies the path to the root directory of an
offline Windows image.

DISM OPTIONS:

/WinDir - Specifies the path to the Windows directory.
/SysDriveDir - Specifies the path to the system-loader file named
BootMgr.
/LogPath - Specifies the logfile path.
/LogLevel - Specifies the output level shown in the log (1-4).
/NoRestart - Suppresses automatic reboots and reboot prompts.
/Quiet - Suppresses all output except for error messages.
/ScratchDir - Specifies the path to a scratch directory.

For more information about these DISM options and their arguments, specify an
option immediately before /?.

Examples:
DISM.exe /Mount-Wim /?
DISM.exe /ScratchDir /?
DISM.exe /Image:C:\test\offline /?
DISM.exe /Online /?




WINDOWS EDITION SERVICING COMMANDS:

/Set-ProductKey - Populates the product key into the offline image.
/Get-CurrentEdition - Displays the editions of the specified image.
/Get-StagedEditions - Displays a list of Windows editions that can be
removed from the specified image.
/Get-TargetEditions - Displays a list of Windows editions that an
image can be upgraded to.
/Remove-StagedEdition - Removes a staged edition from the image.
/Set-Edition - Upgrades the Windows image to a higher edition.

UNATTEND SERVICING COMMANDS:

/Apply-Unattend - Applies an unattend file to an image.

DRIVER SERVICING COMMANDS:

/Remove-Driver - Removes driver packages from an offline image.
/Add-Driver - Adds driver packages to an offline image.
/Get-DriverInfo - Displays information about a specific driver
in an offline image or a running operating system.
/Get-Drivers - Displays information about all drivers in
an offline image or a running operating system.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICING COMMANDS:

/Set-LayeredDriver - Sets keyboard layered driver.
/Set-UILang - Sets the default system UI language that is used
in the mounted offline image.
/Set-UILangFallback - Sets the fallback default language for the system
UI in the mounted offline image.
/Set-UserLocale - Sets the user locale in the mounted offline image.
/Set-SysLocale - Sets the language for non-Unicode programs (also
called system locale) and font settings in the
mounted offline image.
/Set-InputLocale - Sets the input locales and keyboard layouts to
use in the mounted offline image.
/Set-TimeZone - Sets the default time zone in the mounted offline
image.
/Set-AllIntl - Sets all international settings in the mounted
offline image.
/Set-SKUIntlDefaults - Sets all international settings to the default
values for the specified SKU language in the
mounted offline image.
/Gen-LangIni - Generates a new lang.ini file.
/Set-SetupUILang - Defines the default language that will be used
by setup.
/Get-Intl - Displays information about the international
settings and languages.

APPLICATION SERVICING COMMANDS:

/Check-AppPatch - Displays information if the MSP patches are
applicable to the mounted image.
/Get-AppPatchInfo - Displays information about installed MSP patches.
/Get-AppPatches - Displays information about all applied MSP patches
for all installed applications.
/Get-AppInfo - Displays information about a specific installed MSI
application.
/Get-Apps - Displays information about all installed MSI
applications.

PACKAGE SERVICING COMMANDS:

/Add-Package - Adds packages to the image.
/Remove-Package - Removes packages from the image.
/Enable-Feature - Enables a specific feature in the image.
/Disable-Feature - Disables a specific feature in the image.
/Get-Packages - Displays information about all packages in
the image.
/Get-PackageInfo - Displays information about a specific package.
/Get-Features - Displays information about all features in
a package.
/Get-FeatureInfo - Displays information about a specific feature.

For more information about these servicing commands and their arguments,
specify a command immediately before /?.

/Get-Features [/PackagePath:<path_to_package>] [/PackageName:<name_in_image>]

Displays information about all features found in a specific package.
If you do not specify a package name or path, all features in the image will
be listed. /PackagePath can point to either a .cab file or a folder.

Examples:
DISM.exe /Image:C:\test\offline /Get-Features

DISM.exe /Image:C:\test\offline /Get-Features
/PackagePath:C:\packages\package.cab

DISM.exe /Image:C:\test\offline /Get-Features

/Get-Drivers [/all]

Displays information about drivers in an image. Only shows out-of-box drivers
by default. Use /all switch to show all drivers in the image.

About: The following addon completely replaces the program Remote Desktop Connection of XP SP3 (same version from Vista SP1) with the original one from Windows 7. This version resolves some errors with the current Remote Desktop Client when used with certain visual styles.
..Thanks to ricktendo64 for his help in creating this addon. He also created a spanish version available here. Note: There will be an errors in setuperr.log because the files are not digitally signed but this is common and does not do damage.

This installer uses WfpDeprotect to disable SFC for 1 minute, to allow overwriting the original protected files. This WILL enable SFC when WfpDeprotect completes. It can be frustrating to manually reinstall Firefox with all its extensions, themes, personas and other add-ons. Even for those administrators who need to deploy Firefox on hundreds of network computers will find it a cumbersome task to do it manually. To assist you in building a silent Firefox installer with all of the settings preset, here is Firefox Addon Maker.
Features:
[*] This is a application written in C# that will create a silent installer.
[*] The addons and installers can be created in Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, 32-bit or 64-bit.
[*] The addons and installers can be installed in Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7, 32-bit or 64-bit.
[*] You can create an installer with all of your settings intact, an installer with no modifications. Or, anything in between.
Choose From:
[*] Mozilla Firefox usually has 3 versions posted, the Current version, the Previous version and the Beta version.
Options:
[*] Insert personal items, such as: bookmarks, passwords, cookies, history and preferences, extensions data and sessions.

Customizations:
[*] Choose from any language pack available for the version of Firefox that you choose, this is dependant on the languages currently posted by Mozilla.

[*] Choose the installation path for the firefox installer. You can choose to install to any folder on the system drive.

Ya no habrá más necesidad de el Supresor Windows Search. En el proximo UpdatePack (v1.1.9 en adelante) el programa/componente de Windows Search ahora será más flexible, lo van a poder "Agregar o quitar" mediante Agregar o quitar componentes de Windows (y apagar por defecto usando WINNT.SIF)

Si quieren que NO instale por defecto, simplemente con editar a WINNT.SIF con lo siguiente queda apagado Windows Search (si, haré un addon que haga esto automaticamente):

I've received the following error for all my accounts on a fresh installation of Outlook 2010.
Sending' reported error (0x80042109): 'Outlook cannot connect to your outoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
Solution:
I've noticed that Microsoft has changed the default SMTP port in Outlook 2010 from 25 to 587 as you can see in the picture below.

So, if your ISP's SMTP server does not allow port 587, you won't be able to send e-mails until you change the SMTP port to 25.

You can also add dsksrch.chm to keep files in nLite, that's what I recommended my udpck users do before I added it to my entries.ini to protect

I have a request. I'm not sure if it's possible with this new forum software.
I'd like to have an option in the user's profile to flag "Search results from *** language sections only". This would be helpful for those who are monolingual.
IE. If a English user clicks "View new content" and is presented with a list of 20 results, more than half are going to be from the Italian/Turkish sections (but with English titles).
There's no indication (sometimes) what international section those threads are coming from. Very confusing for some.
Can we make that more visible? Or offer the option to filter out those results?
I don't mean this as a fault against our international visitors, but I can only see this option as a benefit. And it'd be an option, not default.
I like to scan the international areas every now and then to see if I can help (Google translator is a help), but there are times when I wish I'd only get the search results I want.
Possible?

1. Install Windows 7 to VHD from DVD
-----------------------------------------------------
With Windows 7, you now have the option to boot the OS from a VHD, a virtual disk file, instead of a partition. This way, you don't have to reconfigure your hard drive partitions.
Limitations: Hibernate is not supported.
Here are the simplified instructions:
1) Start Windows 7 installation from DVD.
2) Press Shift+F10 to start the command prompt.
3) Start diskpart.
4) Use the "create vdisk file=D:\Win7.vhd maximum=xxxxx" to create a virtual hard disk. Choose your drive and filename accordingly. xxxxx is in MB.
5) Type "select vdisk file=D:\Win7.vhd".
6) Type "attach vdisk". You will get a confirmation that it was attached.
7) Type "exit" to exit diskpart. And then close the command prompt.
8) Click on "Install Now" and install as you would normally by clicking on "Custom Install". Choose your attached vdisk as the location.
The installation takes care of adding the boot option to bcd. You don't have to do anything.

Basically, instead of installing windows 7 to your physical HDD by getting rid of Vista or even dual booting off another partition, you can install to a virtual HDD (in VHD format), and boot off the VHD so you actually get the hardware functionality to play with!!
Build 7068 does not allow calculation of the WEI score.
2. Install Existing VHD to Boot Menu of Windows 7
-------------------------------------------------------------------
If you already have a VHD that you want to boot from, you can simply add it to the boot menu rather than going through the above steps. If you have a Virtual PC image, for example, you can syprep it, then add it to Windows 7 menu. Vista's boot manager will not work - you have to update it to Windows 7 boot manager if you want this to work.
First, here how to add the vhd to the boot menu:
Open elevated command prompt, then type the following commands in sequence:

C:\>bcdedit /set <guid> device vhd=[driveletter:]\<directory>\<vhd filename>
C:\>bcdedit /set <guid> osdevice vhd=[driverletter:]\<directory>\<vhd filename>

Note: The first command will Return the GUID of the Loader Object that you will use to replace <guid> below
Note: vhd=[driveletter:]\<directory>\<vhd filename> is the new syntax supported for BCDEdit.exe to locate VHD File and Bootmgr will locate the partition containing the VHD File to boot from.
Type bcdedit /v to check the bcd store.
3. How to Boot VHD without Windows 7 Installed
-----------------------------------------------------------------
If you have Vista and want to boot a Window 7 VHD, then you need to copy the boot manager of Windows 7 to Vista's partition. You need to copy C:\bootmgr and C:\windows\system32\bcdedit.exe to an external source from Windows 7. You could extract these files from the Windows 7 VHD using WinImage or another program.
Then, open an elevated command prompt in Vista and unhide bootmgr (attrib -h -r -s bootmgr) and replace it with Windows 7's. Do same for bcdedit. You might consider making backup copies of these files before replacing them.
Then, add the VHD item to the boot menu using #2 above.
4. How to Remove
-------------------------
To remove, run the following command in a elevated command prompt:

Delete the vhd file.

As long as data on the drive is not overwritten (formatting the drive doesn't actually overwrite any data), pretty much everything can be recovered.
@thealexweb: If you still haven't recovered your data, you should give PhotoRec a try; it's worked wonders for me before.
